Portal - Escape Into Nature 4+

Clutterfree, very well made piece of software. That is the gold-standard every App developer should stife to achieve. Perfectly integrated - found my Nanoleaf Canvas and connected hasslefree with the touch of a button while keeping the Homkit functionality alive. The content itself is behind a paywall that is a tad too expensive IMHO, but the free content is great nevertheless.

Feature request: individual volume settings per scene.

The exciting thing is we feel as though we've only really just scratched the surface on what Portal can do and have so much more planned that will continue to build upon and improve the Portal experience and really push the boundaries of its effectiveness by combining cutting edge research in the field of environmental psychology with the latest advances in immersive technology.

It's worth mentioning that our intention with our free "Open Access" portals, is we want to ensure they're some of our best quality ones so that even if people cannot afford a Premium Membership they can still enjoy the benefits we hope Portal can bring into people's lives. We'll also be changing the exact portals available on Open Access from time to time to coincide with different seasons and/or provide more variety. So we hope even our Open Access offering makes for a great experience.

We also have made a Community Fund available for people that love Portal and would better benefit from a Premium Membership but cannot afford it. It operates on a discretionary basis, so please email us at hello@portal.app if you'd like to find out more.

Finally, with regards to your feature request, if you click on the rectangular button that encircles the audio icon in Portal's main UI, this will open up a shortcut to the "Audio Controls" where you'll find a toggle that allows you to indivdually adjust the volume of the portal you're currently playing. The sounds are good but compared to other good Options the subscription price is too high. In general a lifetime - option or one time purchase would be great.

Hi mapapo, we're delighted to hear that you're enjoying Portal and please accept our apologies for our current pricing structure not working for you.

We do understand that subscriptions aren't for everyone. We're a small, but proudly independent team building and funding the app ourselves. We believe it's this independence that has allowed us to create an app that's truly different from others, but we're only just getting started and have big plans for the future - next up for us will be introducing spatial audio enabled portals which we're planning on releasing in the next few months. We believe remaining independent will help us to take more creative risks, be more ambitious and continue to build an app our customers love and we can be proud of. The problem is building apps is incredibly expensive and often only undertaken by corporations or startups with huge budgets or investment - especially if like us they're doing all of the new filming and content production themselves with cinema-quality equipment. We also refuse to include ads in the app as well which further reduces our options for funding the development. The subscription pricing is a way to allow us to keep pushing the app's development, integrating the latest technology and continually invest in content production in a more predictable and sustainable way than we've been able to do so far. We hope it will allow us to create a better app for our customers and it's aimed at those who use Portal regularly (every day or every week) for which we hope our pricing is seen as reasonable, relative to other comparable apps, for sleeping more soundly, focusing more effectively, or relaxing and reducing anxiety.



We do understand that our pricing structure is less attractive for those who use Portal less often, so please rest assured that we are keeping an eye on other options that we may be able to offer to ensure the broadest access possible while still allowing us to continue the development of the app. For now, unlike other apps, we've tried to maintain a freemium offering of 6 portals which are available for free to anyone that downloads our app, with all features (focus timer, breathing exercises, Philips Hue integration, ambient wakeup alarm etc) currently unlocked - so whilst our current subscription might not be for you we do hope that you might consider using our free portals and hopefully still enjoy the positive benefits that we hope Portal provides. We really do appreciate your feedback as we're always keen on taking onboard any suggestions to help us improve. I need the Starting Earth as a Wallpaper! Looks Amazing. Can i download it somewhere?

With regards to the Earth visuals, we actually licensed these from NASA - they're taken from the International Space Station. So whilst we can't distribute them ourselves, hopefully you'll be able to find them now you know where to look. Hope that helps 🙂
