Beschreibung

Peace missions are the main instrument of the United Nations (UN) to promote international peace and security. They play a central role in the lives of people living in conflict contexts and being affected by violence. In the five-year research project “A Child of Its Time: The Impact of World Politics on United Nations Peace Missions” funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, researchers from the Geneva Graduate Institute and ETH Zürich in Switzerland analyzed how a rapidly changing world marked by global power shifts influences UN peace missions. In this framework, they developed the UN Peace Mission Mandates dataset (UNPMM) - a comprehensive dataset on all UN peace missions that have ever existed. The UN Peace Missions App is based on the UNPMM. It allows you to go through the data by selecting location, date, and mandate task filters. It also provides a range of additional resources, including a list of definitions guiding the data collection and analysis; the digital version of a pop-up exhibition displayed in four major cities in Switzerland between 2023 and 2024; an interactive quiz to test your knowledge; and a list of relevant publications to go further on the topic.
