Moneygood not brilliant
I’ve spent the last month running MoneyBrilliant & Frollo side by side. MoneyBrilliant is better in terms of depth of category choice, it even lets you create your own sub categories. However there’s a lot of aspects to MoneyBrilliant that get on your nerves. Firstly, the home screen is so pointless. Some nonsense about “safe spending” across the whole year. This is where Frollo is better, the summary screen focuses more on the month you’re in. Summary of what’s gone in, what’s gone out. And other more relevant data to the month you’re in like bills paid, bills coming up summary. The navigation of MoneyBrilliant is also quite clunky & hard to get used to. However overall I can’t say it’s worse than Frollo, as although Frollo is neater & easier to use, MoneyBrilliant has great category choices, Frollo’s are really poor & limited. But my biggest gripe with MoneyBrilliant, is the fact it forces you to include loans in the same main category as mortgages. So I have a car loan that I have no choice but to include with my mortgage payments which is plain stupid. This issue doesn’t exist with Frollo, as Loans is a separate category to mortgages. So really if you could combine these 2 apps together then you’d have a great financial app. But MoneyBrilliant has many flaws & so does Frollo.
Good but could be better
I’ve tested a few apps and settled for this one. I just wish I could rearrange some of the features, for example I find the Dashboard with “Safe Spending” useless. I wish it was possible to actually customise the dashboard to have what you want to see on there. The “Activity” news-feed type menu is useless too, other than tracking you average daily cost of living every month which has some value. I think this app is great because you can have all your accounts including super connected to get the big picture, and it’s easy to categorise transactions. But for budgeting I still need something else to estimate my monthly expenses and set goals. This app is just not really conducive to doing that easily.
And the reporting is function doesn’t seem to exist. I spent ages trying to figure out how to see how much I spent on a specific expense in a year. If they added simple reporting and super easily, spreadsheet like budgeting that gives you a view at a glance, it would make it soo much more than just an expense tracking app

It's good, not great
I've used a lot of budgeting tools and MoneyBrilliant is good. It's good because it's flexible, it doesn't lock you down and the matching tends to do a good job of learning. I have had very few issues with the syncs from multiple banks. The budgeting is good, just a lot of clicking to get to the point of editing, especially on mobile.
This said, there are lots of ways I don't find it great. Their savings approach is confusing and would be better if it worked in an envelope budgeting kind of way. The UI is adequate but not exciting. You can't categorise pending transactions and having contacted their support, I still don't see a valid reason not to. Recurring bills for different categories from the same biller get confused every month i.e. Optus mobile and Optus internet. Hiding a category or transaction from budget doesn't seem to update other graphs like cashflow which is annoying when you have work expenses you don't include in your personal cashflow.
Like I said, it's good, just not great.
