OVERVIEW

How many times have you been drawing a portrait for hours only to realize that the nose or the eye is in the wrong place? You can use Da Vinci Eye to layout artwork before you begin or even check your work as you progress.

Having a hard time seeing where lights or darks go? Breakdown images into layers by color value. Then virtually project those layers on top of your image. You can see exactly where to place the darkest darks, mid-tones, and highlights.

CAN'T THINK OF WHAT TO DRAW?

Check out our inspiration section for user uploaded reference photos. If you have a great pic, you can even upload your own content for other artists to draw.

LEARNING HOW TO DRAW?

We have lessons using our unique patent-pending learning method. You can also turn ANY photo into a step by step shading drawing lesson.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Based on a tool that has been used by artists for centuries, this app is a digital version of a Camera Lucida.

You suspend your iPhone or iPad above or in front of your canvas with a stand, tall glass, or other objects easily found around your house.

When you look through your phone, you will see both the image and the canvas simultaneously. It's similar in functionality to an art projector or light box, but with the ability to do so much more.

You can draw on any surface, zoom in to draw micro details in your drawing, and you don't have to draw in the dark.

WILL THIS HELP ME LEARN HOW TO DRAW?

Using Da Vinci Eye, you will be training your eye to recognize proportions and draw with shading while training your hand to translate precise lines and strokes on paper. You’ll learn faster and more efficiently using our proven techniques compared to any other app.

AR MODE REQUIREMENTS

To use AR mode, you must have an A10x or A11 processor and above. We recommend using:

– iPhone 8 and newer (iPhone 7 and below will not work)
– iPad Mini 5th Generation and newer
– iPad Air 2019 and newer
– iPad Pro 3rd Gen (Any pro made after 2018) and newer

AR & CLASSIC MODE

AR mode anchors your image to an object in the real world. This lets you move your canvas or phone, and the drawing and projected image will stay aligned.

Classic mode is like a normal art projector, where if you move your phone or canvas, the drawing will no longer be aligned.

AR mode is especially useful for drawing or painting on an easel. However, in most cases, Classic mode will achieve the same result.

TAKE YOUR DRAWING TO THE NEXT LEVEL

A problem.

When I get to the middle of the picture the camera starts to focus on my hand then constantly zooms in and out, this messes up my guide lines and I can’t focus, I have to extend the pencil from my hand and my lines just become reckless. Please fix this issue. If you cannot I understand. But I would like I tip 🙌🙂

Developer Response ,

Hi there! To fix this just go to tools > camera > and then manual focus. That locks your focus so it stops auto focusing in and out. Or if you are in AR mode you can do tools > AR > lock focus.

This in the instructional video if you need any help, also feel free to reach out at sam@davincieyeapp.com with any other questions!

Fantastic concept

This has helped me big time…it’s been 40+years since I’ve had a pencil in my hands. But life has changed for me after a few years in hospital and now doing lots of Physio so I am suffering with unstable hands and maybe a little vision but DeVinci App helps me big time with sketching the outline first and also with the little details that I miss…it takes a lots practice to get use of all the extras that DeVinci App offers. But having fun experimenting with all the different styles of drawings that I can experiment with, I’m still learning what’s going to suit my style, not sure if it’s going to be charcoal, pencils or watercolour painting or the watercolour pencils. Loving watercolour pencils I have been given half dozen different types and sizes of sketching pads from my granddaughters for Xmas but at unfortunately the highest quality paper is 120gsm…so using watercolours isn’t any good as the pages buckle but not a problem at this stage of my journey. So what ever way I decide to go I know that DaVinci Eye just makes it a whole lot easier. Loving the App it’s made me tackle what would’ve been impossible so…Thanks guys Regards RTC

5 mins in….

AMAZING!!! Not up myself as an artist…wouldn’t even describe myself as one, but I love to draw. Ink and fine line is my preference, but always looking to diversify and mix in other media. Been incorporating baby/children's faces into my stuff recently and despite studying fine art and taking many portrait classes(meh!), still cannot draw faces with any confidence and never pleased with outcome. I just downloaded this app, honestly 5 minutes ago, and within a minute was sketching little baby face size of 10 cent coin (on cartridge paper with a HB pencil cos was just trying) and it looks fantastic! The app is really easy to use, very intuitive. I’m excited to experiment more, especially with the other features of the app. Read some negativity on the web about this app saying it dumbing down drawing/sketching or questioning whether it makes people lose their own abilities. Laughable! This is a tool that encourages creative exploration for all (remember tracing paper?). I have an uncanny ability to accurately draw straight lines freehand (can’t draw a circle mind you!) but I still use a ruler sometimes🤷‍♂️
