Great app but ....
Such a shame that the dice rolls in the live Player v Player mode are NOT random! Whilst it’s impossible to prove any particular roll is corrupt, the pattern is definitely there. The simple statistics on a 66 being rolled immediately after you get a piece on the bar should be 1:36 but in reality it’s closer to 1:5.
i understand in the Computer V Player mode where there’s a Easy/Medium/Hard option that they need to skew the dice rolls accordingly. It’s so frustrating though because in the live/online mode there’s no reason or benefit to manipulate the outcome (& it would be so easy to program a random dice roll)! 😢
Review Update: Despite most reviews on here lamenting the manipulated dice rolls in live/online mode, the app developers in their wisdom (having just done an update) decided against fixing it! WHY OH WHY?? It’s just ... silly!
Probability and Luck!!!!
I personally love backgammon. I find the game very fun and was looking for a digital version. I found this one and played a couple of games only to realise the randomising of the dice was highly unfair. Yes, it might make me think a lot more but as I am close to winning the luck is crazy. On single player mode the server opponent receives luck and I do not. It would get doubles or higher numbers and I would not get any doubles or high numbers. It is quite unfair to be close to winning but instead losing because I do not receive fair results each roll but my opponent does and it’s consistent for it as well. It would get luck 5 times in a row and I would be stuck getting a 1 and 2 on the dice. I think the probability of the opponent receiving high numbers and luck is a lot higher than the probability of me getting high numbers and luck and so I think that needs to be fixed to enjoy the game more so myself and others are not frustrated from losing back-to-back.
🤔 law of probability..?
The app is great, and provides stimulating practice for real life matches.
I am extremely dubious about the algorithm on dice rolls as the level of difficulty is increased in single player mode.. unerringly delivering exactly the right combinations to remove pieces from bar.. not an outcome experienced in live matches.
I also query the ability of the automated opponent to bear off in single player mode while pieces are still in play in sectors of the board other than home
