Description

Buoy Zone is designed to help sailing clubs, Race Offices and support vessels, lay yacht racing courses. The Race Officer sets a course from the start boat and shares this course with their support boats and other participants. The participants can see the course on a map, get course updates in real-time and all support boats can also been seen on the map. Any boats laying marks can zoom in on the map and see exactly where to lay their marks, or tap on a mark for realtime compass direction, bearing and distance. Take the time and pain out of setting an accurate course, and get on with the awesome racing.

What’s New

Version 2.8.9

New mark 2A on Trapezoid course, with ability to set with separate outer course axis or standard distance from mark 2, useful for secondary mark 2 when shifting top of course only.
Data integration with GiPSy Buoy robotic marks
Minor fixes and enhancements

I love this app

Just used this app for the first time at the 2020 Australian Youth Championships at Sorrento, and it was superb. Simple and intuitive to use, it made mark laying fast and accurate even for inexperienced practitioners.
A couple of suggestions if I may which would assist the PRO;
1. The ability to display multiple courses simultaneously - this would help to deconflict overlaps between adjacent courses
2. A mode which displayed all race management boats on all courses, but not the mark positions. This would help to coordinate boats in a rescue scenario

Love your work - happy to discuss

Developer Response ,

Hi Thanks for the feedback, we've just released a major upgrade to the app, all race management boats should now be on the course with locations updated every 15 seconds. The multiple course setting is also a great idea, we've been discussing how this may work. Any further feedback is welcome at support@buoy.zone.

180 bearing same as 0 bearing?

Just tried this app as considering to use this next season for our PROs and mark-layers. Just trying to input a few things to see how it works. Firstly there is no link to contact the developer.?? Also I tried setting up a course with a 180 degree bearing for top mark and app is actually setting it up as a zero degree bearing. Similarly tried a 185bearing and it set up for 355 degrees. Would also be great to be able to set up a finish line gate at a 45 degree angle to starboard of the start boat so boats can finish on a reach and easier to detect sail numbers as they finish. But looks good so far and a great innovation. Keep going. Cheers

Makes a Mark Layers life easy

No more second guessing ROs or mucking with GPS .

Still requires the ability to drive to a course but reduces radio chatter and ends up less stressful for the RO.
