Description
Callipeg is a 2D hand-drawn animation application made for iPad and Apple Pencil (required).
Create shots using the frame rate you need: 12, 24, 25, 30, 60 frames per second...
You will get a fully manageable timeline, within a simple and decluttered interface designed for gestures and Apple Pencil.
Flip your animation with three fingers
Play and Pause your animation with four fingers
Display your floating palette with two fingers and access easily copy, paste, clear and flip options
Select and move your drawings around even through layers
Add as many layers as you need
Select and transform your drawings with the selection tool
Set the color and opacity of onion skin
Callipeg offers different types of layers that allow you to work with multiple contents:
Drawing layer, where you can add sheets, import pictures to your sheets, set their timing, add inbetweens
Video layer, where you can import video clips, adjust their playing speed and break them into sheets (rasterize)
Transformation layer, where you can create keyframes, nest your drawing layers and animate your drawings easily with our curve system
Audio layer, where you can import soundtracks, record yourself, adjust the volume, create fade-in/out
You can also drag and drop pictures from other apps directly in your animation.
Callipeg has a complete brush set including pencil, pencil HB, charcoal, china marker, flat brush, Indian ink, soft pencil,...
And you can create yours with a fully manageable brush settings panel (from smoothing to tip customization and texture).
Choose color with the color wheel, the sliders or create your own palets for your projects. Enjoy also the color history to never lose a color again.
Callipeg has a fully left-handed interface you can access in the settings panel.
Export your animations to:
.mp4 / .hevc / .gif / .png (including your layers structure if you need it) / .peg
At the end of the 7-days trial period, you will have to choose between 3 plans to continue using the app.
For monthly and yearly subscriptions, the purchase will be applied to your iTunes account on confirmation. Subscriptions will automatically renew unless cancelled within 24-hours before the end of the current period. You can cancel anytime with your iTunes or Apple ID account settings. Clean and intuitive
Very intuitive and clean design- it is clearly made to make animating as uncluttered and simple as possible, which an amateur like me very much appreciates. I also like the option to buy a single permanent license (roughly fifty Australian dollars, which I will be content to pay for a program like this, and you pay the same amount for other art programs such as sai) instead of being forced into the subscription option. Only glitch is the brushes occasionally just stop functioning, but I go back to the home screen and back again and it's fine, and I’m sure that will be fixed in a future update. My favourite thing is the uncluttered and easy to navigate interface helps maximise productivity. Side note: creature art teacher offers a full course on using this app
Too laggy and constant crashing
The app itself seems well and good with all the features it has, but its just too laggy and un-usable for me. (if it helps, my ipad is 8th gen.) For example i imported a sequence and my whole app crashed. Reopened it and checked out the other features. Clicked "duplicate layer" and app crashed again. I imported audio and the app began lagging horribly. I don't have these issues for other apps such as RoughAnimator or ClipStudioPaint.
And im not sure if there is a settings for it, but i couldnt seem to turn on "palm/finger" rejection to stop my hand from drawing on the screen when using the apple pencil.
I was definitely hoping to use this app but i was just unable to. However i am glad the developers made it so you can use the app free of charge for 7 days, as it allowed me to test if this app was suitable for me or not :) Im rating this 3 stars because others seem to do well with the app but personally i havent done too well with it mainly because of the lag/crashing issues.
Great program and quiet possibly the best
As an amateur that’s been using every different animation program, this is by far I believe the best program. Compare to other programs that have icons buttons going all-over and across the frame, this app has placed things into simple yet understand structure for the icon buttons. Not to mention the customisable brushes you can edit to use for animation but also amazing shortcuts that would make animation so much easier to use.
My only down-fall is the audio sync isn’t still available (which I hope sooner or later they’ll get to it) and more optional file export such as SWF, mov, avi (if that’s even possible)
I do look forward to see more amazing things from this app
