Description

Celestron’s newest planetarium app is an astronomy suite that redefines how you experience the night sky. Explore the Solar System, 120,000 stars, over 200 star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, and dozens of asteroids, comets, and satellites—including the ISS. SkyPortal includes everything you need to experience the night sky in an exciting new way. When connected to a compatible Celestron WiFi telescope, you can automatically point the telescope to any object in the database and view it with great detail.

Planetarium Features
Simulate the night sky and plan your observing session with a custom list of tonight’s best objects based on your exact time and location. Look ahead to see when Jupiter’s Great Red Spot will be visible, animate transits, eclipses, and other celestial events. View hundreds of photos or listen to more than four hours of audio narration to enhance your stargazing experience.

•Simulate the night sky from anywhere on planet Earth, up to 100 years in the past or future.
•Compass Mode (with compatible devices): Hold your device up to the sky for a real-time synchronized display of celestial objects – from star names, constellations, planets, to nebulae and galaxies.

Works Well but WiFi Drops Out Sometimes

Functionality is good and works as designed. However the WiFi drops out sometimes for no apparent reason. If the WiFi was reliable it would be a great replacement for the hand controller as it’s much easier.

Frustratingly uncontrollable, DO NOT BUY A TELESCOPE THAT REQUIRES THIS APP

I am fortunate enough that I am still under warranty and may return my celestron telescope so I no longer have to use this terrible terrible app. It is frustrating to control, I have to align every time you turn it on, which requires pressing the left, right, up or down on screen buttons so that a bright star is in view, then aligning it into the center of lense, however this became literally impossible one night after trying for 20 minutes to align. The connection would cut out, the buttons were unresponsive, when I thought I had finally aligned the star the buttons would be ghost-pressed so the telescope spun completely out of alignment. I tried pressing shortly, waiting, so much waiting for the delay.. Every time you minimise the app, you will need to reallign. You can’t track the planets that move quickly without alignment. I am beyond angry and this $1000 telescope is ruined by a terrible horrible painful app!!!!!! 0 stars!!!

Quite unresponsive to touch input (iOS 11)

It is quite difficult to control a Celestron AstroFi telescope using this app. The touch input for left/right/up/down is very unreliable. It can be unresponsive to the initial touch input and very often overshoots the target planet by a wide margin because it stays in the ‘pressed’ state after you lift your finger off, sometimes for as much as 2-4 seconds. Perhaps it’s due to interference from other wifi sources. I’ll need to test it in a more remote location to be certain. In any case, it’s difficult to use around your home, but when it works, it’s great.
