Connetica’s “Conversations for Life®” App review
‘Connetica’s “Conversation’s for Life®” is a long-overdue critically important and helpful resource – if for no other reason, amongst many, it provides a human context for something complex and poorly understood.
‘Connetica’s “Conversation’s for Life®” provides a level of comfort with what is highly uncomfortable and anxiety provoking. It reminds us and teaches most simply, we as people, can all DO SOMETHING. Showing compassion and kindness, that we care about humanity, it isn’t difficult, only in the sense it is confronting and challenges our views and attitudes towards life.
Suicide is not a comfortable topic, instilling fear into most of us, clinicians and medical professionals alike. And so it should an uncomfortable topic., this is about life and potential devastating tragedy.
Even with skills, there will always be a level of anxiety when we come across someone in distress, whether a loved one, a work colleague, a school friend, or someone we don’t know. It’s time to acknowledge and accept the discomfort, it’s there, it’s ok that we feel this. We can still help reach out and make a difference.
“Knowledge is Power” – The more we know the less we fear. Learning “how” to communicate appropriately, builds rapport and connects people. Asking open-ended, non-judgemental questions leads to deeper more meaningful and compassionate conversations, an ablility to progress from “ Hi, how are you?” Showing, telling someone “we care.”
The ”Lite” and “ Premium” user friendly App versions, provide education and a safe place to consider, explore and pre-plan an approach. Requiring interaction from the user, ‘Connetica’s “Conversation’s for Life®” builds awareness and understanding of issues, then it works towards improving communication and interpersonal skills through practice exercises.
To gain the maximum learnings from this, requires a little investment of quiet, reflective and practice time, to work through the steps and to embed some critical messages and explore some approaches.
The “Lite” and “Premium versions of ‘Connetica’s “Conversation’s for Life®” takes a few minutes to get used to navigating the different topics.
The “Premium version” offers more in-depth rich background context and information, providing more comfort and common-sense practical tips and ways to communicate and provide support through developing a range of open-ended questions, planning and preparing an approach.
The intent of ‘Connetica’s “Conversation’s for Life®” is that by having prepared for such a situation before hand, that if and when faced with reality, these skills will come to the fore – and provide a way through the discomfort, and haze of freezing with panic and not knowing what to do or say, fearing we will make matters worse.
‘Connetica’s “Conversation’s for Life®” provides the key to unlocking some of the fear.
Ideally, this should be used widely in training of suicide prevention across the community, in blended learning, modules of self- paced learning in as many settings as possible. With a promotion, prevention, and early interventionist approach,
‘Connetica’s “Conversation’s for Life®” is invaluable and can be used by families, carers, support persons, emergency services, medical professionals, workplaces, frontline workers, schools, hairdressers, customer service consultants. All of us.
I feel taller having this in my armory of ways to deal with people in crisis or potential crisis.
Well done and Thank you to the Connetica Team and partners for producing this much neededevidence-based “go to” safety net.
