Level 1 provides 20 readers to practice 6 beginning sounds. Themes and characters are Australian to help Aussie kids, and friends abroad, learn about our unique country.
The Decodable Readers Australia books support a systematic approach of learning to read. This approach ensures kids are given the “right-fit” book. Decodable, or phonic readers, only contain words made up of the sounds a child has learnt. Within each level in the Decodable Readers Australia Series, a new group of sounds is introduced. As children move through each level the sounds progress from simple to complex.
The Decodable Readers Australia – Level 1 books introduce the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n. All the words in each of the 20 books in Level 1 are made up of only these sounds and minimal sight words. This small number of sounds and the opportunity to practice using 20 different fun and engaging stories about Nat and her bush friends, allows children to master the beginnings of the basic code as well as blending and tracking.
Each story in Level 1 can be enjoyed by listening to the professional audio or read aloud with the support of tapping and hearing the word if required. The audio function can be controlled independently within each page. Both parents and teachers can support children with phonemic awareness, vocab, comprehension and development through the use of the pre-reading and post-reading activities provided within each story.
• listen to each story being read to them using the audio function
• use each book to practice reading independently
• tap each word to hear the sounds and the word if support is needed
• tap to turn each page for individual reading pace
• all Australian themes and characters
• beautifully illustrated with detail for engagement and enjoyment
Bug fixes and improvements.
Ratings and Reviews
App Works well and is a great cheaper alternative to trying these books before purchasing the hard copy books. I have been using for my 4 and 6 year old and can already see an improvement in their pre reading and reading skills. Love the sounding out option with all the phonemes and in an Aussie accent.
Tiny words, quiet narration.
Waste of money! The words on each page are way too small for a child to read or tap to have it narrated. I have trouble reading such tiny words and I have 20/20 vision. When they do manage to tap the word, the narrated voice which sounds the word out is SO quiet you can hardly hear it even on full volume. However when you tap to have the word read out (not sounded out) the voice is loud. I regret buying this. Hopefully they fix these common issues but I doubt it, as now I’ve read that others have complained about this for years to no avail. Disappointing.
I homeschool and teach my kids using jolly phonics. I have all the jolly phonic readers, but wanted to start reading with them as soon as they learnt the first group of sounds to reinforce what they learnt. These books follow the jolly phonics stages or phonic sound groups. I wish I could afford the paper copies but this works just as well.
