Description

Discourse is the 100% open source discussion platform built for the next decade of the Internet. It works as:

- a mailing list
- a discussion forum
- a long-form chat room

The application provides:

- A central spot to view all notifications, unread counts and new counts from your forums
- Real time push notifications for officially hosted Discourse forums
- Authentication via Safari for quicker access to your sites

What’s New

Version 1.8.15

This version restores notification support for self-hosted sites. The app now registers a background task that updates the badge counts and if there are new items, it shows a notification to the user (example: "1 new notification, see what's new on discourse.examplesite.com").

Getting back on track

This version finally gets back to a functional hub that it was intended as. Latest update is a good improvement with a lot of important fixes

Good but a few missing features

Having switched back from the now-abandoned Fig app, I’d love to see a few useful features such as:

- name (or automatically pull from the Discourse site) each site so the forum list isn’t a long list of domain names
- reorder forum list by alphabetical, last updated, etc ascending and descending, or manual sort if preferred
- open site, post, etc in new window (iPad)
- submit feedback or some other way to submit feature requests
- settings such as support for Dark Mode (that could reflect the OS or forum settings), etc
- sync settings and forum list to iCloud
- collapsible multi-column support on iPad

Unmet potential

I want to like this app but I just tried it again after a few years and was bombarded with permission requests on first launch 😔 Once I got past those I tried to add 3 communities. The first one (password login) worked fine but I could not connect to the other two. It seems the app does not support GitHub auth or Single Sign On auth 🤦‍♂️
