Better and Better
As an oldskool DJ, I have always loved the interface of this app because it mirrors the tactile feeling of working with vinyl. The software developers are very quick to respond to issues or suggestions, and this has led to the evolvement of a very stable and feature-packed app. For a comparatively small price you can turn your iPad or iPhone into a mobile DJ unit. Great for impromptu parties - just plug your system in to any sound system and away you go. For the record (no pun intended), I have personally used this app to play at several clubs and dance parties along the Sydney circuit with great results. It's like having a set of turntables and four crates of records in your pocket...
Get this app if you love to spin tunes. You can easily key-mix and loop - techniques which are the hallmark of a good dance DJ.
One of the best apps I have on my iPad. Brilliant!
Leaves very little room for improvement
I'm actually glad they made this only $10 ($5 in the first week) because it isn't such a major overhaul that it requires another $20. The sound effects update is a great feature which allows me to add dubstep and synth drums to Maroon 5 (sacrilege, I know). And the beatmapping...oh my god...THE BEATMAPPING! I, along with a one of my friends, have made so many great mashups it's not funny. I bow to Algoriddim in complete admiration, and I suggest fellow customers do the same. We are in the presence of iOS royalty.
(Re-edit: 31 July)
On the contrary, the beatmapping is accurate only for songs with the standard 4/4 time signature. I would like to see support for 3/4 and 6/8 perhaps in a later update.
(Update 10 November) what is it about the key detection and stuff that can't be available for ipad 2? Seriously guys.
I've been using Djay for many years now, and have watched it get better and better. Easy to use, reliable, professional. I don't go for all the bells and whistles when I DJ, but it is there for those who do. I've tried other DJing apps over time, but have always ended up back with DJay
The only criticism I have of it is that you can only record in aiff format. I only use a tablet for everything these days, and I upload my mixes to Mixcloud which requires mp3 format. There are no apps that can handle converting long mix files, so I heed to go through a lot of hassles to convert my mixes. It would be a lot easier if you could select from 2-3 formats to record in
