Description

"Dot's Home" follows a young Black woman as she travels through time to relive key moments in her family’s history where race, place, and choice collide.

"Dot's Home" is a single-player, 2D, narrative-driven video game that follows a young Black woman in Detroit living in her grandmother’s beloved home, as she travels through time to relive key moments in her family’s history where race, place, and home collide in difficult choices.

As an interactive experience, "Dot's Home" allows players to see the harmful systems that dictate our relationship to race and place, through the eyes of those that are most impacted. By inserting the player into scenarios where they have to make choices about how and where to live in the midst of redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification, we ask a fundamental question: “How did your family end up where they are today, and how much choice did they really have in that journey?”

"Dot's Home" is a production of the Rise-Home Stories project: a creative collaboration between multimedia storytellers and housing and land justice advocates who have come together over the course of three years, to reimagine the past, present, and future of our communities by transforming the stories we tell about them.

What’s New

Version 1.4

- Fixed a bug with the pamphlet interaction in Chapter 3 where the slots on the table for placing the pamphlets would sometimes be registered as full even when they were empty. This caused the pamphlets to stop snapping into place and would prevent completion of the puzzle. Now the slots get cleared properly.
- Fixed a bug where Carlos sometimes disappeared from the basement in Chapter 4. If Carlos is still missing, talking to Mavis again and then returning to the basement should fix it.

Great game but…

Wonderful game- I absolutely loved it. Shows African American history ( history being my fav subject) and is quite interactive giving you choices to help other people in the game to make decisions. My only problem was that I downloaded the game played it for a couple of hours and then after a couple of hours of playing, the game told me I finished. It skipped 20 years in tile and showed how dot’s life had changed and had just said that the game was finished which gave me no real interest in starting it again.

So far so good

This game is great so far, I love the concept and idea and the graphics 🙏🙏 but maybe it’s me, but if there was a help jr a hint button it would be great, I got lost because I don’t know how to use items from my bag. This happened when dot’s grandparents were buying the house and sorting out the business. And because of this I haven’t progressed in the storyline. Still this game is a total 10/10 so far
