Downcast 4+

I admit that I have an obsession to find THE BEST podcast player (and text editor, but that's another matter).

I listen to podcasts on my iPad and my iPhone. I wanted to listen on my Mac as well but could not find the ideal app that worked on all three devices.

I was using Castro and iCatcher but recently found issues with both. This prompted yet another search for "THE BEST" podcast player.

Downcast featured in most of the reviews I looked at but usually not at the top of lists. Unlike everything else I saw, it had a macOS app as well as an iOS app.

So I thought I would try it. Several days later, I am really impressed. It sorts podcasts in my prefered way (oldest first) but can group episodes of the same podcast. It syncs to iCloud very quickly and the sync is replicated on other devices equally quickly.

So far, this is proving to be an extremely good podcast player.

Downcast AND Castro are currently my two favourite podcast players.

Highly recommended!

Despite a few non-critical quirks (that the dev has been receptive to and fixes as fast as a solo op can) this player is simple yet powerful.

Custom playlists? Rules are easy to understand and set. Adding from a copied link? The link autofills and the login fields are right there

If you like Overcast but want a bit more control over your playlists, I massively recommend Downcast for iOS and macOS

I have used a lot of them and Downcast is the best. I have been away using one of the apps created by the podcaster friend and have come back to Downcast. it is like coming home it just works. Handles video and audio well, love the double tap the screen to start and stop. this enables me to just reach out and hit the app on my desk and stop the cast.
