Description

**Temporarily, DreamLab is being used to support research to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19).**

Imagine if we could speed up time in the fight against cancer and other critical research such as coronavirus and climate change.

DreamLab is a multi-award winning app that uses the collective power of smartphones to fast track critical research. With global diseases and climate change being some of the biggest issues worldwide, finding answers through critical research is incredibly important. DreamLab exists to help us get there sooner. And the more people who use the app, the faster it works.

HOW IT WORKS

Researchers need supercomputers to scan DNA in immense detail and crunch complex data. When you plug your phone in and power DreamLab, it downloads tiny parts of a huge research project from the cloud to calculate, and sends the results back to the research team. The more people who power DreamLab, the faster we can complete critical research. All you need to do is set up DreamLab once and it will get to work each time you plug your phone in.

We’ve all been touched by cancer. Our best chance of beating it is by working together. And while sleep has always been good for you – with the DreamLab app, it can be good for others too.

Simply download the app (#) and choose which Project you’d like to support. You can also track the Contribution you’ve made and keep up to date with News.

Dreamlab supports cancer research globally, and is powered by the Vodafone Foundation.

* A compatible handset is required. Downloading DreamLab will consume data. Very good idea

This is a great way to contribute and donate computational power to good causes. The app feedback email address however does not seem to exist and I wasn’t able to email some suggestions to make the app even better. So here they are below:

1. The email address that receives the suggestions needs to be rectified or provide another way to input suggestions

2. When the app loses connectivity it shows the Internet Disrupted message, but it doesn't resume automatically once it regains connectivity - often times the internet goes does down it is only for 10 min or so. The App should just keep trying maybe at 1 min intervals and if successful the 'Internt Disrupted' modal should just go away and resume computation automatically.

3. Similarly when the device is unplugged from power it should resume again when power is plugged in again with asking to continue.

4. I like how the DreamLap app also runs on my MacOS. This is awesome! However I've noticed it's only using 1 of the CPU cores! It could easily use much more of the computation on my computer that it currently does. If it did I estimate that I would have contributed around 10 times more computations considering the number of CPU cores on my MacBook Pro.

All in all it’s a great app! Keep up the good work!

Great app to help cancer research

I have been using DreamLab for over a year now and it has worked well, apart from the occasional need to reboot phone. Unfortunately because my phone is running iOS 10 I am no longer able to contribute, no warning, no apologies, no information, the app just stopped working. Now I know the app is being funded by Vodafone, and I can see the commercial reason to force people to update their phone, but I thought this app had a higher goal of researching cancer treatment. I presume it would be possible to have a simpler version of the app that could run on the older iOS but still be able to contribute to this great cause. Come on Vodafone let's focus on cancer research.

A bit of problem when I run it on my iPhone and iPad at the same time

I run this app on both of my iPhone and iPad overnight. But very often when I woke up in the morning, one of the devices, say my iPad, was found stopped calculating. The circle around the number was still spinning, but the number stopped at tenish or twentyish, while the other device, say the iPhone had finished sixtyish calculations. The iPad is an iPad Pro, and iPhone is SE. I don't think their calculation capacity should have a difference like this. There seem to be conflicts when the app is running on multiple devices on the same wifi network or under the same iCloud account
