**Temporarily, DreamLab is being used to support research to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19).**
Imagine if we could speed up time in the fight against cancer.
DreamLab is a multi-award winning app that uses the collective power of smartphones to fast track cancer research. With cancer being one of the biggest causes of premature death worldwide, finding answers through medical research is incredibly important. DreamLab exists to help us get there sooner. And the more people who use the app, the faster it works.
HOW IT WORKS
Researchers need supercomputers to scan DNA in immense detail and crunch complex data. When you plug your phone in and power DreamLab, it downloads tiny parts of a huge research project from the cloud to calculate, and sends the results back to the research team. The more people who power DreamLab, the faster we can complete critical research. All you need to do is plug your phone in and press ‘Power DreamLab’ each night.

A bit of problem when I run it on my iPhone and iPad at the same time
I run this app on both of my iPhone and iPad overnight. But very often when I woke up in the morning, one of the devices, say my iPad, was found stopped calculating. The circle around the number was still spinning, but the number stopped at tenish or twentyish, while the other device, say the iPhone had finished sixtyish calculations. The iPad is an iPad Pro, and iPhone is SE. I don't think their calculation capacity should have a difference like this. There seem to be conflicts when the app is running on multiple devices on the same wifi network or under the same iCloud account
I have been contributing to this type of research on my computer, for years. Just in the last couple of weeks (possibly after an update, the app will appear to be running fine on my iPhone 6, but after a couple of hours or more it states that “0” units of work have been done. Other times it just freezes and won’t load. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the app. It worked for 2 or 3 days, then the last time did “0” units of work over 2 or 3 hours. Now it is freezing and quitting. If it is not fixed soon I will uninstall it permanently, as it is not worth my time and trouble. I also run it on an old iPad 4. It seems to run okay on that, but processes a little more slowly.
One year later, this will no longer load on my iPad 4. I have deleted the app twice, shut down the iPad and restarted it. Then downloaded "the last compatible version", but it just hangs at the purple start screen for hours, if I let it. So obviously won't run on my iPad 4 anymore. I will delete it. It runs fine on my 8 month old iPhone XR.
Great idea, except big issue for iPhone X users
I’m familiar with these types of projects and am happy to support them where possible. However the app did not seem to shut off my screen which ordinarily would be not a huge concern except the iPhone X has an OLED screen and I do not feel it’s worth potentially damaging a A$1500 phone for research
If for some reason I overlooked this setting then I apologise, However I did run the app for quite some time and it would not shut down the screen.
I’m aware of the iOS limitations around apps being required to be running to process data, but you could ask the app to draw a black screen after 2 minutes.
None the less... great app, just update it for us to all contribute please
