DVR.Webcam – Google Drive Edition is a plug-and-play solution to personal surveillance for audio/video recording. It is a cloud-based DVR (digital video recorder) app that uses Google Drive as its cloud storage. You run the app on your mac that serves as the DVR station. It will let you record video from your cameras, and view time-lapse recording remotely.
Unlike other cloud-based camera services, this app does NOT charge you monthly. It simply uses your spare Google Drive storage for the camera recording.
When in use, the app automatically records camera’s video (in the case of webcams, audio as well) and streams it over to your Google Drive. You can define X number of days to keep the DVR recordings in the cloud, and the app will automatically manage the storage for you.
Viewing the DVR is entirely cross-platform and web-based. To view your DVR, simply visit http://dvr.webcam website from any computer or mobile device, and use our online DVR viewer with Chrome browser. There is no need to configure firewall or router for remote viewing, or using a 3rd party viewing app.

Low middle marks for this one
It’s not terrible but there are some issues. I’m on OSX. It would be nice if the app remembered the goggle drive login from launch to launch and the claimed feature of being able to specify how many days to keep the recordings in the settings does not exist. Also the playback interface in the browser is pretty clunky and unresponsive. This was all tested across 3 different macs - one being a very fast Mac Pro and the other 2 being mid speed and slow.
On the plus side it had no trouble finding my cameras - Sricam brand. A number of apps I tried simply would not see them. I would happily purchase and use to record to a local drive if the app had more features around disk space management and allocation but even when trying to record locally I could see no way of specifying disk or directory location. I guess overall for a version 2.5.1 I would expect some more maturity than this.

It occasionally (not fully) worked when I first installed it, then as time went by it worked less and less to the point where now it uploads nothing but 4kb files to my google drive which are unviewable. It’s continuous video recording (uploads 1 minute intervals) is unreliable and you’d be lucky to get 1 minute every 5-10 minutes. Or nothing at all. Saving to local storage was no better.
Like the other reviewer said, it was quite easy to add my camera and adjust the appropriate settings. But sadly it’s let down by the fact it can’t do effectively what it’s main feature is: save videos to google drive.
I have tried contacting the developer for assistance but no-one will return my emails.
Thankfully Apple refunded the $15. I would consider purchasing again if the developer would provide a fix, as it’s a good low cost solution to storing security videos in the cloud - if only it worked..
