A truly great idea and app
A year ago I wrote a review praising the central idea of the app (ad revenue goes towards tree planting projects), but I said it could be a bit more sleek and have a dark mode. In the recent update, they’ve truly outdone themselves; adding dark mode, incognito mode, a nice modern design and much more. The search engine results have improved a lot from my experience. Ecosia as a transparent organisation also regularly publishes financial reports showing where the ad revenue has gone (which is mostly to tree planting), and they care about privacy. It’s a great alternative to the techopoly that is Google, and is a great way to help in the global reforestation effort, just by searching. It’s now my official go-to search engine, and I can’t recommend it enough. Thanks Ecosia, keep doing what you’re doing.
Search Bar is a bit annoying
Great app! The update is so much better but the search bar is annoying. When you click on it when it's not empty it should highlight what you have in there so you can start typing your new search straight away. The search bar now is frustrating because every time you put something in there it adds to whatever address was there in the first place and your search doesn't come up because the original address hasn't cleared.
Other than that the history and tab thing is soooo much better. I never used to be able to clear tabs properly and it would play videos I'd exited out of a while ago as soon as I would open the app.
Great app - but...
I have found some searches produce more ads at the top of the list than other search engines but it's easy to scroll past them knowing that the majority of that generated income goes to trees rather than a tax-shy paying business like google. However, when you switch between apps, it doesn't keep the page you were on therefore having to search all over again which is time wasting. The 'new tab' button is clunky and freezes. Will try and stick with the app though - I like the premise behind it.
