Editors' Notes

If you can think it, you can build it with The Everything Machine. Designed for kids, Tinybop’s latest innovation lets you combine the camera, microphone and other hardware features of iPhone and iPad to create “machines” of all kinds. Kids will delight in assembling voice disguisers, kaleidoscopes, alarms that trigger if someone dares to swipe a prized possession and more. The intuitive, image-based programming language makes it simple to connect parts onscreen, and the app offers plenty of guidance and inspiration to get makers of all ages up and running.

I loved it.

Tinybop's second addition to the 'Digital Toys' collection is undoubtedly the most fun, delving users into an interactive, simple and playful demonstration of robotics, where your creativity is the limit. I love playing with the Everything Machine, and as well as being a great tool for learning, it's a great tool for laughter and humour, as users uncover one thing a robot can't protect; its expressions. For example, I used the camera and face detector inputs to speak an insult from the Type Talker when a face is recognised. I typed in 'Fool detected," asked my friends to look into the camera, and before I knew it, the fun of The Everything Machine had spread like hot cakes throughout the school. I loved this app, and I can't wait to see what Tinybop has next in store for us.
