I also had an expensive hand held GPS fully loaded with waypoints. To be honest I still got lost quite a few times in the first week of my walk. Well, I found it to a game changer for me. With my phone in flight mode to save battery, I found the Guthook app foolproof and totally reliable. When I was uncertain of my trail I would open the app and see exactly where I was in relation to the trail. In the middle of bogs and un-signposted fields the locator on the app never failed me once and always enabled me to re-find the trail, within a metre. I highly recommend this app and look forward to my next adventure with Guthook!

An extremely poor guide. I just finished paddling the entire length of the Shotover River and take my word for it this guide is very nearly completely useless. Just a cash grab, I suspect it’s just built by someone who has never paddled this river looking over satellite imagery because the information about rapid grades and is wrong, most of the rapids are missing, there are genuinely only only four points of information in total, it only covers the the very lowest section of the river so if you are paddling upstream you miss out, it doesn’t mention anything about Jetboat areas. The developers are thieves

15.1: Search is here! The long-requested Search feature has arrived on iOS. Quickly find waypoints, routes, and trail names, or jump exactly where you need with tools like Go to Distance and Search by Coordinate.

12.3.3: Introducing a new app feature called Field Reporting! Now you can suggest new waypoints to be added to the app or report conditions in the field by creating a custom waypoint, report any errors you notice on waypoints or comments, and flag inappropriate comments, etc. Try it out!

15.1: Search is here! The long-requested Search feature has arrived on iOS. Quickly find waypoints, routes, and trail names, or jump exactly where you need with tools like Go to Distance and Search by Coordinate.
We’re also rolling out FarOut Pass, a new Unlimited subscriber perk that unlocks discounts at places along the trail. If you’re a subscriber, keep an eye out for trail service waypoints with a yellow ring to see what perks are available during your adventures. FarOut Pass is initially available on the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail.
Finally, Settings and File Manager got a full redesign. It’s now more intuitive to control exactly what guides and guide data are stored on your device, and to switch offline maps on a guide-by-guide basis. Update today and take 15.1 for a spin on your next adventure!
