Shows promise
As a huge fan of the 3 PC versions of homeworld I’ve been looking forward to this release for a long time. Despite being on the mailing list, I never receive notification that it actually left beta and was released to the App Store. Very disappointing gearbox!
The game is beautiful and the sounds are equally reminiscent of the desktop version.
The interface is intuitive and the battles are exciting.
The game overall is a little bit grindy lots of kill this many of this, or collect this much of that or, donate this much of this.
Also, being a recent release, there are annoying game freezers/crashes. You’ll do something that you’ve done a dozen times during the same game session, for example collect your research points or hit complete on a mission and you’ll just see the spinning circle of death. Unfortunately that means that if you have to exit the game altogether, you’ll maybe complete the action that you were trying to do and of course you’ll be automatically transported to the nearest trading station/outpost when that might not exactly be what you want to do.
I’m a fan
I am a fan of this game I’ve been putting in some serious work building up my fleet. This game is not a pay to win one but there is in game purchases. Only problem is game does crash a bit, developers always fixing and improving. My iPhone 13 runs so hot it crashes a lot. That said great fun give it a go
Potential for a great game ruined by freemium model
The graphics are true to the Homeworld legacy, the sounds are spot on too with the familiar chatter of the crews calling out what’s going on, but the constant pop up messages and pointless travel here to click something and claim a reward, then travel so where else to do the same, then again to get a new 2 minute mission to offer you something you can speed up with premium currency, and then start the process again has thrown it all out the window.
Rip out the micro transactions and the unnecessary claim this and claim that sections, and I’d pay $20 for a Homeworld game on mobile, as it is, I doubt it will last another day on my iPad.
