We’re a team of scientists and designers exploring new ways to challenge the brain and push cognitive research forward. We take common cognitive and neuropsychological tasks, or create entirely new, experimental challenges. Working with experienced designers, we transform these tasks into games and puzzles that challenge core cognitive skills.

We also work with 40+ university researchers worldwide. We give qualified researchers free access to Lumosity training and tools, helping them investigate new areas in cognition.

We invite you to train with us and join in our mission to advance the understanding of human cognition.

Love it but

I really love this, even if you’re limited to three games a day, that’s fine, the games change all the time so you never get bored with it. It really works as a break trainer and it’s fun. The only problem though is I think premium is WAY too expensive. $18 a month is a bit much. I’m not super interested in the insights to how I’m doing, the commmunity thing or any of the other premium features, so all is really be paying $18 for is that unlimited games and that’s definitely not worth that money. Overall though the app is great, and the free version is more than enough.

Eventually stops helping

The biggest problem with Lumiosity is that after a while it stops helping you train your brain and instead cause chaos and frustration making it detrimental. Once you reach your threshold to be able to complete a certain level mostly towards the end, you go from training your senses and just get frustrated you just keep failing at a particular level. Most would think just keep at it but it eventually just becomes harmful to your mental help your inability to complete the level no matter how many times you try. There needs to be some intelligence in understanding stopping a persons progression or just ability to play manageable levels daily would be the best way to continually train your brain.

Developer Response ,

Hey there, thanks for sharing your concerns with us! It's not unusual to get to a point where you feel like your progress on our games has plateaued or is declining, but consistent training can allow you to break through these Lumosity plateaus. It's important to keep in mind that the object of your training is to improve your cognitive functions; the games are just a fun interface to allow you to do so. Regardless of your scores, you're still giving yourself a great mental workout!
