MealPal- Best Meals Around You 4+

I’ve been using Mealpal on and off for around 2 years now and have found it to be a very good service most of the time. Depending on where you are there may be limited options available but if you’re in a spot with lots of Mealpal shops it’s a great way to discover places you haven’t been to, and also a great way to get a cheap deal.

I recently had an issue with charges on my Mealpal account and have to say my customer support experience was perfect. Mealpal support got back to me extremely quickly and completely fixed my issue. Obviously ymmv but my experience was great, big thanks to Thomas!

Mealpal, what were you thinking with this update?? Most of what I’m going to say has already been said, but I’ll say it again so that you might listen.

Kitchen is showing as closed. I had to log out and log back in to get it to open.
The map is limited to my usual zone. While I appreciate that you have worked out my work location and yes, 90% of the time that is what I’ll be looking at, sometimes I am elsewhere and want to look at options in another area of the CBD. I had to create a new location and make it the default in order to browse a different part of town. And then I’ll have to change it back. Crazy.
The picture of a meal you suggest based on previous choices is taking up too much real estate on my phone display. I will decide what I want to eat, if you let me see the options and don’t cover them up!
And all the other complaints about not being able to manage your account eg cancel or hold from the app. This is not new to the current version but it’s very annoying, so I just wanted to add my support to the other reviewers.

This is such a good idea executed so poorly. How much do you pay your developers? Or are they just work experience kids? Do you read any of the feedback? Do you do any testing with users?

I’m considering cancelling because you’re just making it too difficult.

The concept of the app is great, however, they have been deliberately deceptive regarding the monthly $4.99 charge to use this app. Nowhere in the description does it mention any fees, in fact it says "without committing to a subscription fee". However, when signing up to the app, it will ask for your credit card and make it seem like it is a once off $4.99 payment. HOWEVER, if you then check your account setting afterwards, you'll see that it is a MONTHLY $4.99 charge. When questioned via email, they explained that a membership fee is not the same as a subscription fee. The FAQ on their website says you can cancel your membership under your account setting online (webpage, not in app), however, when you find the page, it advises to email the mealpal team for ANY account change. Concept is great, but the company is not truthful, and actively makes it hard for people to get out. Plus, it's the basically the same meals offered every week, and only in the CBD. Don't bother.
