This app provides free access to 1:250,000 scale topographic maps for Australia, New Zealand and many other free maps around the world. It is compatible with all maps published in the Memory-Map format since 2001 and works with maps you may already have on your PC/Mac or have downloaded from the Digital-Map-Store (1000s of worldwide maps available for download and use on most PC/Mac’s, Tablets and Phones) See the Memory-Map web site for details.

Once your choice of maps are downloaded to your iPhone/iPad, cellular network coverage or internet connection is not required for real time GPS navigation (as long as your device supports a GPS function).

Good and could be better

I have been using the app for 9 years, on pc and ipads. The maps and map layers are good, my low score is for the following; The file or layering system, it is hard to backup your folders, hard to select data for data management, hard to easily transfer data from layer to layer or export. You lose you file / folder structure when exporting your data if you are trying to move between devices. Generally I use other systems to manage files and only use MM to dump and see, this lesson was learnt after several changes between machines. The Ipad functionality limited. In the standard version I have to manipulate the data format and manage data in other programmes to get it into shape for memory maps to use. MM was my goto programmes but less so in the last 3 or 4 years. If MM could fix it folder / file management and allow streaming of online aerial imagery as well ... that would be great...

Great App for hiking and off road driving

This is a versatile app with a huge range of maps available. I used it to plan a 3 month trip around the UK to get a feel for distances and the lay of the land. I have an extensive array of maps covering Australia with scenic locations, campgrounds, and rest areas marked, and a set of detailed topographic maps for use when hiking or cycling. I can use the maps on my PC for planning, on my iPad in the car, or on my phone when hiking or cycling. I can then load the recorded tracks into google earth or other applications to create a record of my trips.
The addition of a scale marker in the latest version is a big improvement.

A great map app

I run the biggest latest iMac which also runs Memory-map on Windows. The Mac software is not as capable as the PC. It won't recognise maps held on the Mac or licences.

Nevertheless, this is a great mapping/GPS app and I've got them all. It's simple to use but has many more user options for points of interest, tracking, routes and maps. The free app works well but If you've got your own maps on a Windows software you can put them on your iPhone with the paid upgrade. Support is also tops. If you're a casual mapper get the free one but it won't be long before you will want to upgrade.
