Not working everytime you need it
I used Truphone during a trip in Brazil in January 2020, and everything worked well.
As I had to travel in Australia this September with a stopover in Qatar, I decided to buy an international plan to get some data during the trip.
This time nothing worked as anticipated... I was not able to get a connection in Qatar and my phone showed « No service » when I arrived in Australia.
It took more than one week of email tchat with customer service to have the service working correctly... In the meantime, I had to buy a local predaid card to get some data (that was what I wanted to avoid by using Truphone...)
I was also pretty disappointed when Truphone refused to extend the validity of my plan. Considering that I was not able to use my plan for more than a week, I think that would have been fair to extend the validity of the plan...
Don’t think I will use Truphone again in the future...
Purchased plan that ‘Disappeared’
I purchased a plan for my trip to Canada, and then enabled it the day before I left. When I arrived the plan did not work (at the airport); it appears that I never purchased the plan and email to support got no response. I have an email receipt, the account name matches my phone login. As I mentioned, no response from support. My travelling companion had the same issue and they did get a support response that said she had used up her plan and/or it had expired. Considering she had not been in Canada 5 minutes and it never worked. Avoid these people, support is hopeless. I have used other eSIM apps with success, but this is hopeless. I’ll be taking it up with my credit card vendor and try to get a refund.
Does not work in South Korea
I purchased a Truphone regional package for Asia. First stop, South Korea. ESIM activated but no 4g. After trying all carriers (ie disabling automatic selection) I contacted Truphone for support - no response.
I have now purchased an Airalo eSIM that worked immediately (also worked in Mongolia) and with zero problems. Airalo’s app is also a much more user-friendly app than Truphone’s. I will try Truphone in Singapore and if it doesn’t work there I plan to ask for my money back but judging by other reviewers’ comments I don’t fancy my chances.
