What’s New

Version 6.1.4

We’ve removed the Extensions section from the settings screen — along with the rest of the Reddit API code.

Removing this code has the nice side effect of providing some small performance enhancements, though probably too small to be noticeable.

Great app… definitely 5 stars

Two years ago, I wrote this as my review:

“It’s good, but the lack of iCloud sync really holds it back. With all the tracking and personal data going who knows where, I just don’t feel comfortable using any third party sync service other than iCloud. If the added it I’d be all in. For now, I’m back to a different RSS reader that does support iCloud sync.”

Today I realised I’d written it as I had completely forgotten I did. I should’ve updated this. They added iCloud sync a while ago and NetNewsWire has been on my Home Screen since then and it’s one of my most used apps. I love it.

An excellent, lightweight alternative to Feedly et al.

Wonderfully designed specifically for macOS and iOS only, this app is a wonderful, clean, fast, and completely free alternative to Feedly and the other subscription-filled RSS readers out there. It may lack a few features compared to some of those competitors, but it makes up for it with its exceptional execution of its singular focus.

The only thing I really miss is image thumbnails for articles. If they add that in the future, NetNewsWire will be the ultimate RSS app for me.

Finally, an clean-looking app that just works

It's certainly the modern rage to have an app look exactly as it was planned on paper, but that often ends up bogging down us users with an unusable UI, a huge app download, and other eye-rolling triggers.

My goodness, what an absolute pleasure this app is to use. I just... want... to read... news. And that's what it lets you do... for free!

Thank you, thank you, THANK you.
