Sock is awesome, you’ll sleep better! - new app is buggy
Love the sock and base station - such an awesome device and puts your mind at ease. I check it at work when my partner and baby are home and it’s just nice to see your babies heart rate and oxygen is good during the day. I think the socks a must have.
The app sometimes doesn’t connect or is slow to connect... sometimes shows the sock being low battery after a charge and then will refresh it’s self quite some time later which is annoying as I thought we didn’t plug it in property and took the sock off sleeping baby to charge and then it said charged afterward. History does have missing parts and can be hours delayed?
But the app isn’t needed for the sock to function. Because the base station does all the alerts. But would be great to see bug fixes on app.
The Owlet sock gives my partner and I piece of mind every time our baby naps. We use this everyday and is one of the most important items we own. I would recommend this over most things you buy being a first time parent.. the way I see it, is that if you can have a device that will read your babies oxygen levels and heart rate while you aren’t in the same room as them than it’s a no brainer.. spend the money on this item over other items you’ll use once or twice. This may save your childs life. (We still check our baby regularly and have a camera monitor on her every nap.) even if it never alarms it’s still done it’s job. It gives us the best nights sleep and I feel at ease knowing I will be prepared / ready if it were to alarm. Thank you to the Owlet company. - I recommend this to all new mums or expecting parents that have never heard of it before.
A big let down :(
Most worryingly, the app will not hold a connection to the camera, which is a deal-breaker.
In short testing over 60 minutes, sometimes my wife’s phone may lose the audio, and mine will remain (or vice versa), which suggests an app problem, rather than on with the camera, but across two nights and nap times, neither of us were able to maintain a consistent connection.
There are some other frustrations which contribute to our frustrations with this product, such as:
Despite being a network camera, the only way to access the feed is via a mobile app; there is no native PC Support.
There were several review sites which indicate that the Owlet Camera could provide notifications for baby’s movements, but without the sock, this can not be achieved.
The WiFi connection on this camera is remarkably inconsistent.
We have an excellent home network with access points in the roof.
Every device can connect at full signal and throughput, anywhere in the house. Yet for some reason, the Owlet Cam often says that the signal is “Fair” or even sometimes “weak” even though it's about 4 meters from the WAP, with only a gyprock wall.
Despite setting the Cam Audio to “background”, every time we restart the application, it defaults to “on”, which means that audio is only playing when the owlet care app is in focus.
With a baby girl, the risk of not hearing her cry because of this persistent setting is too significant.
