What’s New

Version 6.0.4

Thanks for using OpenSnow! This update includes:

Bug Fixes

The edit buttons on the Favorites screen now take you directly to where you can quickly add or edit favorite locations. The app also remembers your last selected main tab and reopens it on launch. We've also fixed UI bugs affecting widgets, mini maps, and location pins in the main map.

My Location Screen

We’ve added a dedicated tab and screen in the bottom navigation for “My Location”. This new screen provides the current conditions, contextualized mini weather maps, the 10-day forecast, astronomy data, recent news articles, and historical weather for your current location.

Mini Location Maps

The new “My Location” tab and any location screen will now feature contextualized weather maps based on the current conditions. These “mini maps” will populate with animated radar if precipitation is in the forecast, nearby weather stations, fire maps if we detect smoke in the forecast, and much more.

Also, if you enjoy the app, please rate it and write a review. Thank you!

Simple and clean

I had a lot of issues with the old layout, but as of today they have released a new update that has fixed a lot of those issues.

I like that everything (mountains, passes, forecasts) is not crammed onto one screen anymore and is split at the top

Brilliant snow forecasting

Being an Australian skiing in North America I am usually unfamiliar with weather patterns and snow characteristics. I have used OpenSnow for many many years to help plan a trip ahead of time and then use it while on the ski field. Does a great job.

Not very useful

Limited forecasts, assumes you live in the US and you have to go into settings to make the units and formatting work. This should be part of a setup wizard I hate US built apps with no awareness that there’s a world outside that bubble. Season passes are missing mountains (Hutt isn’t on mountain collective for example). The UI looks ok. But without paying for a subscription it doesn’t really deliver anything that google won’t give you for free.

Developer Response ,

Hello and thank you so much for your feedback. To update your units in the OpenSnow app, go to Settings > Unit Preferences to choose from USA, Canada, UK, and International units to display. We have forecasts available for locations in the United States, Canada, Japan, Europe, South America, Australia, and New Zealand, and are adding new locations every month. The Mountain Collective season pass is updated on the OpenSnow app with all available ski areas (2 days at 46 resorts). With OpenSnow, you can conveniently compare forecasts on a single screen, view the latest 10-day snow forecast and snow report for your favorite ski resorts, and track storms with our high-resolution maps (more coming for international location soon). Free account benefits include: Favorite Locations List, 5-Day Snow Forecasts, Custom Snow Report Alerts, and Avalanche Forecasts. All-Access account benefits include: 10-Day Snow Forecasts, 5-Day Hourly Forecasts, Unlimited Daily Snow Reads, Daily Snow Email Delivery, Current & Forecast Radar, Estimated 24-Hour Snow Reports, Estimated 24-Hour Snowfall Map, Estimated Season-to-Date Snowfall Map, Estimated Snow Depth Map, Cloud Cover Map, Wind Gust Map, Temperature Map, Wildfire Smoke Forecast Maps, Real-Time Lightning Map, Air Quality Map, Custom Snow Forecast Alerts, Favorite & Offline Trail Maps, Favorite & Timelapse Cams, Snowpack Graphs & Analysis, and Historical Snow Reports, and our summer service, OpenSummit. We have also committed 1% of our All-Access subscription sales to the direct removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and its sequestration in secure, long-term storage. Thank you again for your feedback and please send an email to hello@opensnow.com if you would like to chat further. -SAM
