Outline – one note app for offline, cloud & WebDAV. OneNote compatible & Office 365 powered.
Capture notes at any spot on a page and draggable around. Organize notes in the world's most natural hierarchy. Store notes in your local file system, and synced across devices with your favorite cloud.
Freedom but clear structure. Power features but focus on note-taking. Beautiful UI. OneNote compatible.
- Choose where you want to store your notes: Dropbox, iCloud, WebDAV, Box, or OneDrive
- Consider a no-cloud option too: some notes need offline and cloud-free privacy
- Mind the coming-soon: SharePoint, OneDrive for Business / Office 365
- Find everything a note needs by the hand: text, lists, tables, images, checkboxes, hyperlinks, and more
- Put that stuff anywhere in a note and then move around / re-size / edit it all, the way you like
- Keep notes structured in a natural hierarchy of pages, sections, and notebooks
- Access a note fast via recents, search, and note links
- Manage font size and color, apply styles and highlighting
- Attach files and insert printouts, to collect documents in one place

Not bad for the Price
Once Circus Ponies Notebook stopped working on my Mac after an upgrade, I was looking for something similar. Outline is not that product but I do like its flexibility and the ability to keep all of my notes organized in one place. Things I hope to see in the future: 1) the ability to see the whole name of attached documents such as pdfs - the character limit is annoying; 2) the ability to link text notes to attachments (as in the old Notebook text lines) - If I want to re-arrange 20 attached pdfs and the notes that relate to them I must drag each attachment and each text comment individually, which is tedious and as recipe for confusion. I understand that this issue is part of the intentionally “free” design, but it would be great to have the ability to insert structured lines (maybe on particular pages) as found in many notebook apps.
Its a long history - started with onenote before the ribbon. Excellent. Best app from microsoft ever. Ribbon and forced upgrades and disappointments with windows => I changed to apple machines. Outline runs in native one note mode, imported perfectly. there were some early troubles with previous versions and version compatibility across mac/ios versions but that all seems ironed out.
This program runs smoothly. No crashes for a fair many months now and upgrades seem stable when they come. It preserves the original pre-ribbon/can see all the books at once image which helps productivity. It seems to have no compatibility problems between its versions or with windows one note.
I run it with one-note on the work windows machine, mac air for portable work and mac mini at home, as well as on iPad. With the files saved on dropbox this seems to work perfectly.
Great app. I’m going to die if it dies (disappears from app shop/upgrade cycles etc) because its a lot more efficient and useful than the windows one-note at work, and one-note on the mac mighht be free but its tied to the windows cloud system. So with no access to the mac file structure (ie dropbox) its is a dog. (Apologies to my dog for that remark).
Trouble with Syncing
Lovely looking notebook and would be good value, but sometimes it doesn’t sync, and then you have to close the notebook and re-open, i.e... on iMac or iPad or iPhone, this happens both on OneDrive and iCloud notebooks, on some days they will sync as they should but usually no,
Alena the Outline consultant is very patient, but I believe we need a further update on all the devices for the app to run smoothly as it should,
I think the gorilla has gone to sleep, the note book still doesn’t sync
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
