Identify Pacific Pests, Diseases and Weeds using comprehensive fact sheets and images

PestNet and Pacific Pests, Pathogens & Weeds v10

When crop pests and diseases occur, farmers want help and advice immediately. They don't want to wait and in many cases they cannot wait. Unless they act quickly, the crop could be ruined.

This App gives extension staff and lead farmers all the information they need to treat the crop. If there is no way of saving a crop, the steps should help to prevent the problem occurring in the future.

What's new

In version 10, of the Pacific Pest, Pathogens and Weeds (PPP+W) app, we have made two important improvements.

First, we have added 18 new weed fact sheets, all present in Pacific island countries except for one that is important, present nearby, and has the potential for spread. In addition, we have added an assortment of fact sheets on a variety of pests - insects, mites, slugs, rusts, smuts, bacteria and phytoplasmas, again choosing some not present, but for which Pacific island countries have a vulnerability. We have even added fact sheets on ways to improve biocontrol and what is healthy soil. We always welcome suggestions for others!

Secondly, we have added links to the PestNet service. This volunteer-run service has been going for more than 20 years. It is a network of many hundred people interested in plant pests of all kinds. We invite you to visit or join the PestNet Community to get rapid advice and information on all aspects of plant protection worldwide. The PPP+W app is part of PestNet’s program.

We would like to thank ACIAR, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research for providing support in the development of the App under a sub-regional (Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Tonga) IPM project (HORT/2010/090).

We thank Identic Pty Ltd., ( creators of Lucid and Fact Sheet Fusion for its development.
