PuppetMaster 4+

This is a terrific app, but is misclassified as Education meaning that Screen Time App Limits allows my kids to play this instead of learning maths or reading. The developer gave prompt support indicating they are considered reclassifying a future version.

Thank you so much for your kind review and for letting us know about the Screen Time App Limits issue. We've already discussed privately of course, but I'm replying for anyone else reading:
We did first classify as "Educational" since it is used primarily in schools, in the US and around the world. It has been named on the AASL "Best Apps for Teaching and Learning", for instance. We've been working with teachers from the start and they expressed that this is STEAM education and aligned with ISTE standards and other pedagogical theory.
The app also has corresponding lesson plans on the website - www.puppetmaster.com - teaching a variety of subjects, including science and reading comprehension, and we're planning to add some math ones.
However, I completely understand your desire to have your kids stick to a different type of educational app during the allotted time, one that's not as open ended as this one. I love that you are so thoughtful about how your kids use their devices. All of us parents should have this approach! I'll consult with more users and try to make the best decision for the majority of users.
I also am thinking perhaps I should embed lesson plans more actively within the app, at least as an option, for those parents who don't always want it to be so freeform and open ended. I'm learning as a I go, as the app spreads from schools to more parents, so this might be a good thing to add.
And FWIW, I think in the new iOS, you can actually choose specific apps rather than app categories for the Screen Time App Limits, which will let different parents decide whether to include PuppetMaster or not, but of course if you already have it set up by category I don't expect you to change how you do things. It's up to me to make it easy for the parents, not vice versa.

Good app to take your own characters and puppetise them. The concept is great but it is not very practical or easy to use. It is very fiddily and takes a very long time to get something basic done.
I mainly bought this app for the ‘motion capture’ feature so I don’t have to worry about manipulating the puppet by hand, but motion capture is very quirky and almost useless.
With a lot more investment these issues can be ironed out but at this stage it was not worth my money.

My apologies, I'm so sorry you were disappointed and I thank you for your thoughtful feedback. Could you perhaps share what device and OS version you're using? I've found the newer devices give better results. And also perhaps we could chat about some tips to get better tracking results? (Some tips are available by tapping the Help button, as well as on the website - puppetmaster.com). In any case, we have taken these issues to heart and are hard at work on some major improvements to the motion capture and should have a new version up shortly.
