I find the app good and pretty easy to use. There are times when the watch won't sync properly so I just turn off Bluetooth, go into airplane mode and switch everything back on again and repair the watch which fixes the problem. Only issues I have is you can't sync while charging and sometimes my watch wigs out and stops counting waves, so I restart my session. It would be nice if you could "merge" 2 sessions into 1 once you are on the app in that situation but overall I think it's pretty good. It would also be good if you could select each wave and see how long they were, I've found sometimes coming into shore is counted as a full wave so it'd be nice to know what length the others were especially when your mates claim its not a real stat ! That's why we have the watch isn't it? To brag 😁

2 stars might be extreme but I have been using this for around a year I think and have constant sync issues with the watch and app where I have to close the app a bunch of times and re pair the watch as it just won’t see it from the app. Even after the latest update.
I think the data shown through the watch and app are great, eg design and such is good (although people I have unfollowed still show in the list and I can’t remove them, eg tester mctestingson) . But ultimately the user experience is very much let down by how difficult it is to sync. Auto syncing should be the standard IMO, manually syncing ultimately renders the on watch surf report unnecessary as well - since it takes far less time to check Surfline directly.
I know two tech minded people with watches already who would froth at the chance to be QA guiennea pigs to help improve the app

When you want to see your monthly or yearly stats in your profile in the app, it doesn’t work. I have called them and they are aware of the issue and told me they are working on that but it felt they just say that to shut me up.

Feeling quite disappointed as it’s an expensive watch that I mostly bought to keep track of my stats and now I can’t see that. They shouldn’t sell the watch until they don’t fix this.
