Salesforce Authenticator 4+

Description

Salesforce Authenticator adds an extra layer of security to your online accounts as a strong, out-of-band authentication provider. The app sends you a push notification, and you tap 'Approve' for logins and critical actions when it's you, or 'Deny' if it's not. For even more convenience, Salesforce Authenticator can use location services to automatically verify from locations you trust, like your office or home. Better yet, Einstein can save trusted requests for you! Then you need only respond to notifications when something out-of-the-ordinary happens.

You can also get a verification code when you need one. The codes also work as a backup authentication method if you're on a plane, or have poor connectivity. This means Salesforce Authenticator also works with third-party services that use OATH TOTP tokens.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Rest assured, we go to great lengths to ensure minimal GPS use so that Salesforce Authenticator does not significantly impact your battery life.

What’s New

Version 4.3.0

- We fine-tuned in-app notifications to clarify the criteria for activating backups. To enable backups, you must have at least one connected account that’s associated with Salesforce, such as Salesforce.com, Heroku, MuleSoft, Marketing Cloud (including Intelligence), Commerce Cloud, Quip, and Tableau. But if you’re using third-party accounts that require a 6-digit time-based one-time password (TOTP) for login, you can’t enable backups.
- We fixed some bugs.

Best Authenticator App 🔐📱

Hands down the best authentic app for iOS. It is so easy to use. Not to mention it syncs with iCloud so you won’t lose anything if you change phones. Simply the best 👍

The most buggy Authenticator I’ve used

Everyone seems to be trying to lock things down with 2FA now. Some do it really well, and others do it in a way that keep you locked out of your own account. The Salesforce Authenticator is tilting towards the later. Super slow approval notifications in the app. Back up works some of the time. Every time I go to log in to Salesforce I have about 75% confidence I’ll actually be able to get in. Until they get my confidence up to 100%, this stays at 1 star. Alternatively, don’t try and do the 2FA yourself and try outsourcing it to people that do it really well.

Never authenticates based on location

Two issues:
1. It detects your location fine if you work at some big complex where one address spans a sizeable geographic area, but if you work in a densely populated area, the address you are detected at will change every time you authenticate.
2. Even if the authenticator remembers your exact address, it won't automatically approve your login attempt. The app now has a big history of everywhere I've been, but doesn't do anything for me with this information.
