What’s New

Version 4.2.1

This is a big one with alot of smaller adjustments and bug fixes but we've also added an A to Z for both TV Shows and Movies to help navigate all the content we have.

What we've fixed...

You no longer hear ads playing in the background if you've exited the app during ad play in live stream.

If using Arabic with the app:
-Navigation buttons were missing
-if interacting with the hero carousel, it no longer swipes in the opposite direction

We've fixed the share link from detail pages & we've increased the size of the sign in screens on iPads.

Any actions performed when on the Home screen no longer refreshes the page plus if you're not signed in and add to your favourites, you're prompted to sign in.

Next releases will have new features so keep an eye out or opt in to the beta to see them first.

The world in pictures is at my command

SBS provides an extremely comprehensive and diverse view of the world through SBS on demand and I am so grateful.
Where else can I laugh myself silly with such shows as “Come Dine with Me” as they parody the too-serious, ridiculous and pompous side of cooking shows?
Where else could I cry my eyes out at poignant, sensitive movies like the Japanese movie “Departures”?
Where else could I satisfy my lust for scan noir or travel the world of food or comedy without having to worry about Corona?
It’s all there and more....thank you SBS.

App mostly defective

Running this app on my iPad is sort of ok (if I restart it often) but using the app on my Samsung tv or even just casting to it results in errors that make it unusable. The main error is that an ad break will start but the first ad just freezes in the screen and does not play or stop or anything. You need to quit the app/ stop casting to continue and then you need to go through the whole business all over again. Tedious. It is intermittent though - might successfully play an ad break before the error but it does error on the 2nd or 3rd ad break. Other teething issues are annoying, e.g. the app constantly does not remember the menu I am in, restarting all the time, even if I just briefly switch to another app or reply to a notification onscreen. This is also what happens when I click “App Support” in the App Store - it just takes me to the app opening menu which is not helpful for logging any kind of feedback. I have since abandoned the tedium of trying to watch anything on the SBS app.

Worst viewing app around

Appallingly bad. As others have commented, screen freezes and hangups at adverts. Forward and rewinds always generates more ads and therefore more freezes and hangups. “Resume viewing” function- not there. A very frustrating experience. SBS have previously advised me to make sure I have latest version, did so and makes no difference. Avoid it like the plague if you can. Disgraceful performance from such a large, well resourced corporation. 👎👎👎 Reading a whole bunch of reviews shows most have been having these sort of problems over and over and over. SBS deflects queries by continually asking individuals for more details; what version are you using, what device are you watching on, have you....blah, blah, blah. SBS gets the same answers multiple times, still no fixes. Is there only one SBS person working on this app? What’s going on, you are collectively destroying SBS’s reputation, turning off viewers and creating very bad viewing experiences. I give up! Goodbye SBS On Demand, you’re the weakest link.

This is disappointing, WallabyKI. The next release will have more updates on performance.

We would need detail from you to understand what device, OS and how you're watching from the service (casting, mirroring etc) . Resuming playback we'd certainly need more info.
