In addition to the outstanding playing strength of the 12 times computer chess world champion, Shredder is also able to mimic the play of a human chess player with any playing strength. He even deliberately makes typical human mistakes in those levels.

Solve 1000 built in chess puzzles. Shredder keeps track of your performance and offers advice if needed.

You can adjust Shredder’s playing strength from beginner to master level. If you like, Shredder automatically adjusts his strength to yours. He even calculates an Elo rating for you. This is how the playing strength of chess players is typically measured.

Could be even better

This is the best chess app I've played, I like that the lower levels are not just hard levels with the odd REALLY dumb move thrown in to make it easier. However, the offer to resign every time I reach a relatively dominant position in a game is really annoying. This coupled with the game playing very poorly after offering to resign means I never get to close a game out properly and I feel this is effecting my own game and reducing my enjoyment of the app. You need to enable players the ability to switch off the resign feature.

Buggy and terrible user interface

I love the iPhone version of this so was excited to see this app when I got my iPad. However it’s obvious very little work has been done on this app to convert it properly. The most useful feature for me personally - position analysis - is gone. Setting up a position is really awkward in a tiny screen - why oh why not on the full screen? And there are bugs. The user interface has always been a little unintuitive in shredder but it’s really janky and half baked here. I guess there’s little chance of an update so I’ll keep using the iPhone version.

Developer Response ,

Hi there,
thank you for the feedback. You can use the analysis feature from the right most button on the menu bar.
Se have put in a lot effort to adapt the interface for the iPad and make playing chess easy and delightful, and most people love it. Feel free to drop us a line if you have a suggestion to improve.
