Simple logger

I agree with just about all of the previous comments except that I haven’t yet worked out the file system.

Great bare-bones tracker

All I wanted was a simple and standalone gps logger that would record my walking tracks and export them to something else for later examination. I didn’t want to have to log into or use an online service to view or manage my tracks and I wanted to be as offline as possible. This app is great and fits that bill well. It can sync your data to iCloud, but if you want you can disable that and keep it local. It does rely on online access to maps (looks like Google maps) but that is understandable and expected.

It can be configured to log by interval or distance, so you can record a gps point every 5 seconds or every 5 metres. It doesn’t let you pick exact values, but provides some predefined options. It can log every gps point continuously if you want. It has an option to set gps accuracy filtering, but it would be good if it recorded an approximate figure for the certainty or let you set a numerical value in metres (which would be good for points of interest).

It allows you to either set points of interest or take photos on your track as you go. These appear on the map as small and appropriately sized markers. You can select the photo marker to see the associated file name and then view it. The photos get stored into your camera roll, so they aren’t locked within the app.

Tracks can be saved and kept, but the implementation is a bit confusing initially (but makes sense in retrospect). Basically it lets you store into different folders and store each saved track into one of your choosing - the interface just doesn’t make that clear when you are first using it. You can then go back and view previous tracks just like as if you were viewing it while it was being recorded. This also lets you view basic statistics about the track (total time, maximum and minimum elevation, distance in 2D and 3D, number of gps points) as well as viewing a simple time/elevation chart. Tracks can be exported to gpx or kml as an email attachment from the app.

Really glad I found this app and hope the developer keeps supporting it as well as sticking to the “simple” methodology. They have done a good job at meeting some basic requirements without adding in too much excess fluff - they were probably unsatisfied by other similar apps out there and wrote this one for themselves! I don’t know if the app contacts “home” or anything like that, but I would recommend it if you want to keep your tracks as offline as possible, but still accessible to yourself.
