Great app, crashes a lot

I have had this app on my computer for just over a month now and it goes through phases of working seemlessly, to crashing and having to reload and clear cache for every single message that comes through.
Restarting the app, restarting the computer, all does not work until one day it magically starts working seemlessly again.
Frustrating when its our companies main communication tool.

Useful app; terrible implementation

Slack's underlying technology, Electron, is incredibly inefficient. It doesn't behave like a native app, stealing focus multiple times during its slow startup process. It always has multiple processes at the top of actvity monitor, using more of both CPU and memory than any other app. More than Safari. More than Photos.

Slack is now a company with money, startup excuses for cross platform rubbish have expired. Hire a competent programmer for a month to do this properly!

That said Slack is useful and that is the only reason we tolerate it. Slack became the most popular chat app only recently. Perhaps the next app to become the most popular just has to do the simple tasks Slack does while not wasting resources on the older computers most people have?

No sound? -- Fixed

After the latest release I noticed I don't get sound for my notifications anymore. I have allowed them on the System preferences and Slack preferences. All of the other applications are able to play sound.
Edit: Updating my review; I found what the issue was: I don't know why but Slack was using as default sound input/output something that wasn't even connected, instead of the built-in stuff. Raising the rate, since support also got in touch!

Developer Response ,

We're sorry for the sound hassles. Please drop us a line at feedback@slack.com, we'll take a look under the hood.
