What is language exchange?
Tandem language learning is the process of joining forces with someone who is a native speaker of the language you want to learn. Through conversation with your Tandem partner, known as language exchange, you improve your language skills and develop intercultural competence.

Ratings and Reviews
Great, but could use safety improvements
This app is fantastic for learning languages! Instead of having to pay for language lessons with a native speaker, you can practice for free in exchange for helping them with their language.
HOWEVER: There are A LOT of creepy guys on the app who basically treat it like an international Tinder. I have talked to a few girls who have all said the same thing. It would be great if there was a setting you could select to have only girls message you, or at least a setting where you have to approve a request from someone before they can message you.

Tandem how wonderful
I have been using Tandem since 2016 and since them I have been able to Increase my cultural and historical knowledge immeasurably by being in contact with Spanish speakers wherever that language is spoken, with Iranians and Ukrainians I can now say hello in all these languages and become a beginner in Spanish. I have learned and used recipes for food I would never have known without Tandem, and my first contact has become a lifelong friendship with a person in Argentina My contact with someone in Crimea has given me an insight and ringside seat into the war in Ukraine, and helped me to broaden the world’s view of my country and do something for international understanding do yourself a favour and become multicultural in your chair
Pretty useful, but needs some fine tuning
I really enjoy being able to speak to native speakers of a target language and I have made legitimate friends that I have been talking to for 2+ years after meeting on tandem. As a native English speaker, I often get overwhelmed with a flood of messages in my inbox of people wanting to chat. This has made me delete the app on many occasions. I’d like to see the developers create a separate inbox for people wanting to start a conversation. This would make your chat tab less anxiety-inducing! I’d also like to see them add a feature for replying to a particular message. This would help keep the flow of the conversation and make it clear as to what message you’re replying to. As is, the chat is fairly clunky and if I’m comfortable with the person, we just transfer to using WhatsApp to continue learning.
