The Duplicate Finder 4+

I can find no fault in the function of this very useful app. I am generally not prone to duplicating documents or files so it was an interesting excercise to find out how many I had. Considering my data goes back over 15 years I certainly have had plenty of opportunities to accidentally save more than one copy of anything.
As far as the presentation of this app goes it needs a bit of correction in English spelling and grammar making it obvious that it was not developed by native English speakers but everything is none the less easy to understand.
Just a tip for users like Kuroondetto, don’t drag an drop your directories like “All My Files” from the finder window to the app window. That is what the “+” button is for, if you drag an item off the side bar that removes it. To get it back you just need to go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Sidebar, and tick "All My Files” or “Music" again, that will put it back on the Finder sidebar.

I’ve tried many duplicate finders, most of them are way too slow and hang over large folders (40GB) even when left running overnight. This one is by far the fastest and took <5mins to scan that same folder. Auto duplicate selection is great too (but would be nice to add some rules for it to follow, currently it just picks the 1st one found to keep and deletes the rest). If you’re looking for a duplicate finder that acutally works, don’t go past this one. I’ve wasted a bit of cash trying others, even ones that were flagged as editors choice.

Great App. On first use I did over 2 weeks work in just under 2 days! Really! That was a pleasant surprise to me.

Automatic mode; the app's interface's is straight forward and uncluttered. It has nothing but one (+) to click to add folders or simply drag and drop folders onto the window and the app starts by itself.

Manual mode; to add or remove multiple folders it will wait until you have loaded all the folders you want. The interface displays a start (—>) or reset (x) button to begin searching. Options are found in the preferences.

The Preferences - ( ⌘, ); are easy to navigate and understand. I have asked the team if they would add a few more options to make the app even more effective.

The only "con" is technical. A bug really. Setting the "Size to Ignore" preference needs a little tweaking. When I set the parameters I wanted, the app found files outside those parameters. I gave feedback to the team.

Want quick, smooth and accurate search? "TDF" in my humble opinion is excellent. I like the way "TDF" is set up. The price is really very good. It is nowhere near the price that can be paid for other apps which are no better than "TDF.” Like I said at the beginning, I have been pleasantly surprised. The app really does deliver.
