Detailed, large and balanced game

This is a very detailed, large and balanced game. It reminds me of the early Might & Magic games (although you are not playing a group of characters). There is a good range of character classes, skills, races, weapons, magic, etc to choose from. The story line is involving and interesting. Battles are challenging but not overwhelming. Nothing is too easy. And nothing is too hard. The card game you can play in the inns makes you think and plan your moves. I think that the devs have got the balance of this game just right. I've already spent hours playing. If you purchase the game be sure to visit the devs website and read through the on-line manual. It is more comprehensive than the (already good) in game help. Reading the manual has helped me a lot, particularly with choosing skills to upgrade. I posted this review 3rd March 2009.

Finally ported!

I bought, played, re-played, and loved The Quest on my old Palm device so I was delighted to find that it had finally been ported to the iPhone. I haven't played the iPhone version all the way through yet but it seems to be a faithful reproduction of the original (with the exception that you now start off inside the hollow tree instead of in the open).

If anyone is unsure about whether or not to buy this game, take my advice, buy it. The game is huge, extremely detailed, has tons of replay value (in fact it is impossible to do every mission in one play through) and is just romping good fun. There's literally weeks, possibly months, of gameplay here. Put it this way, I bought it for my Palm device in 2006 and played it regularly for over 2 years and Well worth the cash if you ask me.

Great Old-School RPG - Controls a lil' Clumsy

I am really glad to see this kind of game on my iPhone. Finally something with a little bit of depth and immersion where I can play and develop a character. That's what an RPG means to me and The Quest fits the bill more than anything else I've seen on the app store so far. However, the control scheme still feels like it needs work. I like using the D-Pad option but it is too large, my thumb sits in the middle of it and I have to move it too far to reach the directional buttons making play awkward. Also if I keep my thumb on the D-Pad and move it to a new arrow the response is slower than lifting the thumb and replacing it, I don't like that so much. Devs, please take a look at the controls, I would rate this game 5 star, 6 star if I could, as long as the controls get a bit smoother.
