After a lengthy research on tools to use to help me in my quest to become a violinist I came across this App after reading reviews from professionals I decided to give it ago, once I started using it I noticed to huge improvement on my bowing, tempo and most importantly I started learning to read the music sheet with more confidence. I have private lessons and Trala is my I home support tutor on my nightly practice. I was so impressed with the results I subscribed for a year. The developers keep on improving the lessons there are plenty of tips (videos) from professionals and it is a very intelligent app that listens to your playing and gives you feedback accordingly. I can not recommend Trala enough!.

Ok, in the video I saw for this, I saw a freaking girl doing vibrato on the violin, but couldn't get a note right. You have to be at least a grade 1 to do vibrato, and to go up a grade, you need to take an exam, like the AMEB exams. You cannot say that you were taught by an app, when going into an exam, and you also can't learn how to tune a violin by yourself.

This app is an example of an horrendus app, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I have been playing the violin for 7 going on 8 years, and I am horrified at the examples shown. Does it teach you how to get into third position? I think not. The videos are useless, and unneeded. Better off actually getting a teacher, and doing it in person.

They don't teach you how to put on the shoulder pad, and it isn't aimed at all ages, but at ages 20+. I know that because they use the scientific words for everything. You can't just go and play any of the songs on there, because in an actual lesson, you would be doing open string bowing, to improve your hands and posture. You are meant to hold the violin on your shoulder, but they don't mention that at all.

What about general knowledge, and classical pieces? No-one wants to play pop songs on a violin. That would be stupid. Soon you will have one for violas, but they will start at the very beginning, even though you need to be grade 2 or up for a viola.

Don't buy this app.

Simple and Useful

At the heart of it, it’s a simple enough idea, the app listens to you play the violin and tells you if you have got the correct intonation. And as a beginner it is incredibly helpful to get that feedback when I am practicing alone!

There is a nice enough sequence of lessons where each string is introduced, then songs to practice - you get scores on how accurately you play, or a violin animation pops up to give you a hint about where you might be placing your finger and where you should be...

There are a few teething problems, like the files wouldn’t get downloaded etc. but the support is friendly and prompt! I ended up subscribing for the year and I would recommend it...
