Ratings and Reviews
We wouldn’t dream of planning a holiday without consulting TripAdvisor’s appraisals of hotels, restaurants and attractions. But this robust app does much more than that, letting you book your entire trip—from flights to museum tickets—in one place. For those who embrace spontaneity, TripAdvisor is great for quickly finding spots nearby to stay, eat or play, and the honest user reviews frequently save us from travel troubles.
The Sri Lanka taste experience you’ll never forget
Be prepared to have your taste buds tantalised with flavours you won’t have experienced in even the best Sri Lankan restaurants. The low-key Jaga Foods sign on the road from Polonnaruwa gives no clue as to the unique culinary experience that awaits the traveller at the end of the winding driveway. Welcoming owners Jagath and Angelie pull out all the stops to ensure their freshly prepared and cooked dishes - delicious home-grown mushrooms, wing beans, tomato curry, ash plantain cooked in garlic sauce, papaya salad, baby jackfruit, beetroot, poppadums, lake fish and fried chicken - just keep coming. Each time we reached for one plate another arrived with a flourish and Jaga’s trademark announcement: « Wait, there’s more! »
Jaga Food is perfect for a delightful lunch with friends or a romantic evening « a deux » amid the tropical fruit trees and the croaking of an army of frogs in the creek - thankfully ensuring that the dining area is free of mosquitoes!
Jaga and Angelie also have a couple of rooms for guests who would prefer to stay overnight.
They are also happy to talk recipes and give growing tips on fruit and vegetables to anyone who’s interested.
Before you leave, the custom is to write a message on the wall or the dining table (rapidly running out of space). You definitely won’t be disappointed with your experience.
Great, but let’s make it better
Obviously I love the TripAdvisor app or I wouldn’t have written more than 150 reviews to date. Infact the app relies on folks like me giving unbiased advice to patrons and feedback to proprietors so everyone gets something useful out of it. So what’s in it for me apart from the warm glow?
Well, how about information? With all the analytics around nowadays you’d think some anonymised stats about who is reading, for how long, what they did while they were there and afterwards (booked, wrote their own review, etc), demographics, was the proprietor one of them, etc. would be a good start. C’mon TripAdvisor, we know you have this data at your fingertips, so how about letting your collaborators in on it?
One more thing; reviewers like me ought to be treated like the restaurant reviewers of old, ie. recognised at the point of booking, and treated decently when we turn up. I’m happy to acknowledge this in the review, if I write one. You figure out how to make it happen. Thanks.
