Description

Calculators have changed very little since the 1970s - while phones from that era look ancient. Why should calculators cling to a 40 year old design with a wall of buttons and one row for results in the age of retina displays? We deserve something better. Tydlig brings the calculator to the next level for iPhone & iPad with innovations like freeform canvas, responsive results and linked numbers.

Tydlig is perfect for calculating everyday things like tips and discounts, showing the entire history and allowing you to change any number with instant updates. For deeper calculations real-time graphing is an excellent way to explore and visualize things like bank interest rates and trigonometric functions.

Features:

* Responsive results: Edit any number on the canvas and see all results update automatically. Let your calculator work for you, not the other way around.

* Linked numbers: With a result selected, press any operation to create a linked number below. Responsive results will cascade down these links.

* All history is stored on an infinite scrolling canvas. Drag numbers around and reuse them as you wish.

* Annotate any number with an attached text label, like a freestyle spreadsheet.

* Real-time graphing: Link numbers to a graph and any change to the expression will instantly update the graph. Perfect when trying to explore how functions work and behave.

* Use the Slider to tweak any number and see results and graphs update in real-time. Combined with the graph it is an excellent way to visualize and teach math. Tap the slider to toggle between discrete and continuous modes.

* Share the entire canvas by printing, or exporting as a high quality PDF. You can also copy calculations as text, or save the visible area as an image which can be used in other applications like Pages or Word.

* Undo support.

* Supports external Bluetooth keyboards for really quick digit and basic operations entry (+, -, *, /).

* Tydlig works completely offline, no need to be connected to the internet.

* Lots of power under the hood with a lightning fast calculation engine, over 20 mathematical functions and scientific notation formatting options.

Smart

Makes all the other calculators squirm with awkwardness at their clumsy buttons and lack of expression. You guys should make a spreadsheet now.
Excellent for what-if measurements. e.g. Measuring bracket spacing for a curtain rod: length minus 10cm each end, divided by 3 for bracket spacing. But what if we take 5cm offset instead of 10, and have 4 brackets? 8 cm offset? Easy.
Normal calculator, start over and refer back to your notes, and maybe key it in wrong because you’re tired from juggling these numbers in your memory. Tyldig, just click on the number you want to change and change it.
It is a game changer for me. Thank you devs, good work.

Great calculator, though it really needs a multiple sheet feature

Tydlig is an great calculator app that I use all the time, however it has one downfall.

I've built up a suite of formulas that I use regularly to assist me with my day-to-day work (such as calculating breathing apparatus working durations for firefighters), without needing to remember complex formulas.

However the more I use Tydlig (by adding more formulas) the more it becomes cumbersome to use, which is a real shame, as Tydlig doesn't allow more than one 'sheet' or screen. The result is that I need to cram all of my formulas onto one page, which makes it cumbersome to use frequently, and just as cumbersome (sometimes more so) to manage all of these formulas.

The iPad app is a little better, though it also eventually falls victim to this issue too. Ironically more so owing to iPad's bigger screen size, which allows the user to add more, and more detailed, formulas.

If we could save our formulas to 'sheets' in iCloud, this would allow users to manage all of their formulas so much better and allow formula sharing.

I'm giving Tydlig 4/5 stars for this reason. Once Tydlig gains a 'sheet' feature that works with iCloud, I'd definitely give it 5/5 stars.

Save Calcs Request please

Great app. Love the clear thinking. Wonderful for setting up engineering calculations. However could I request that you consider being able to save calculation sheets to iCloud docs? That way workbooks could be saved for repetitive calcs and loaded when needed. Cheers.
