Doesn’t work overseas

I set up UBank debit card for overseas travel but the app keeps crashing with “Something went wrong. Please try again.” when I tried to login to check balance overseas. I made an international call to the Helpdesk, and after 30min wait, I was told the app only works on certain countries and the country I was in is not one of them! Why are you promoting $0 fee on overseas use but not telling customers app doesn’t work outside Australia! I was told to use login via the website but that didn’t work either!

Looks great,

This app looks great and seems like it will do a lot to help people save and be aware of their spendings however by excluding people under 18 your preventing people like me to learn how to save and to have money saved up before turning 18. Teenagers are a demographic you should consider because they are often ones who struggle most with money and they are also the ones who need to start thinking about their future, for me I’ve been saving but downloading this app I thought might help me even more, just something to consider because I was a little shocked by it that u were excluding a demographic that needed this equally as much. Maybe even reducing age to 16 years old because most banks allow students to open a bank account so what’s stopping you here ?

All look no features

Honestly, for a bank that prides itself on being forward thinking and internet-only, UBank’s app is deeply lacklustre and pales in comparison to the other majors. Still major flaws in design and functionality. Two standout fails for me:

1) Still no push notifications when credits/debits are processed. This has been a highly requested feature for *years* on the app’s own forum.

2) Free2spend is a dogs breakfast of a budget management feature and is too slow to use regularly. Every time you land on the tab, it has to re-calculate on-device, which takes up to 20-30 seconds. Inanely, it doesn’t save its progress from previous calculations. So if you re-open it later in the day it has to happen again. Furthermore, transaction categorisation isn’t smart enough — it constantly gets stuff wrong and doesn’t learn from / remember your manual recategorisations.

In this age of pitiful interest rates, a bank’s app is a central draw card. Considering it’s backed by one of the big four, UBank ought to do better.
