I was a little dubious when it came time to switch from the previous version I paid for to the subscription-based model...but my concerns quickly faded. So much time and attention goes into the seamless functionality of Ulysses, I'm happy to support the developers and their ongoing commitment to providing such a quality writing experience. I write every day and publish frequently in online and print journals, blogs, magazines, and have deleted my extensive collection of writing programs in favour of Ulysses. The customisation is great, the sync between Mac/ipad/iphone (where I jot my notes) is seamless, and the whole experience is a pleasure. The real strength lies in the ability to write in markdown and publish the same document to multiple output formats without changing a thing in your document. Brilliant. I also love the filing system, ease of search, pinning my word count/stats to whatever I'm writing, being able to change/customise the editor to my mood, having everything I need so close and accessible...pretty much everything about this program. If there was a lifetime subscription option, I'd happily jump on board. Kudos to the development team from a happy convert :)
Makes writing fast and playful

I’ve previously written a technical book in MS Word, and Ulysses makes writing a joy by comparison. Start anywhere. Get the ideas out, and it’s easy to split, join and rearrange to try out different ways to organise your thoughts and your points. It lets my writing be so much more playful and fun by breaking down the barriers to just typing. I don’t have to worry about how things fit together because it’s so easy to play with that at any stage. It encourages me to iterate and experiment. I look forward to writing in Ulysses. The iCloud sync lets me keep the ideas that hit while out walking with my iPhone, slot in the images and diagrams that I make on the Mac, and split the actual writing between the Mac in the office and the iPad on the couch. I tested other apps and found Ulysses had my favourite balance of enough power and ease of use.The subscription gives me confidence that it will still be around in a decade, and the only minor bug I notice got squashed within a week. Bravo!

It's the tiny little details that make the difference

You don't notice how fast you're going in a German car. And you don't realise how productive Ulysses is until you look back over what you have achieved. The way that you can do the majority of your work without touching the mouse alone is joyful. I'm > 11,000 words into writing a technical, non-fiction book. It's a difficult topic to write about because of interdependent ideas. Creating the structure for the book is almost as hard as writing the content. I actually don't know how I would do it without Ulysses. I make heavy use of creating / splitting / joining and moving sheets around at will. It would be horrible to attempt that any other way. The subscription model is the only sane way of running a software business. As a consumer, I want the latest and I want the tools that I rely on to be there for me in the long term. My subscription supports the continual development and I'm very happy to pay.

## iPad only
- We have completely reworked the main menu, mirroring the full structure and functionality of the main menu on Mac.
- You can now separately activate the line marker and fixed scrolling.
- You can now select themes from the View menu.
- The editor now has menus for paragraph- and text-markup (yay!).
- You can now copy and paste sheets and groups using the menu (or keyboard shortcuts).
## Improvements (all devices)
- Projects, groups, and filters now have a dedicated Edit view, which covers name, icon, and color, while a new Statistics view covers history and… statistics.
- We have redesigned the condition editor for filters.
- We have reorganized the editor settings, making them much more accessible.
- The writing history for groups and projects is now always visible within the statistics view (it previously needed a goal).
- Editor search now includes options for "Whole Words" and "Begins with”.
- Images in the editor now load faster.
- Mathematical equations are now exported as native Word equations (OMML), ensuring full compatibility with Microsoft Word.
## Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue with our ePub exporter when a cover image was set.
- Fixed the alphabetical sorting of tags and categories in the WordPress publishing panel.
- Fixed certain group or project icons not appearing in the Shortcuts app and within widgets.
- Fixed various crashes.
