Version 1.13.0
Two fresh codexes take to the field in this latest app update:
- Codex: Adeptus Custodes and Codex: Orks are both fully supported and ready to take to the tabletop.
- Combat Patrol: Strike Team Solarien is now visible in the app
- Munitorum Field Manual Version 1.8 is now available in the app
Ratings and Reviews
Fine app
Perfectly fine for making lists and referencing units easily and quickly. They should just take more ideas from BattleScribe and it’ll be a 5 star app.
Creeping paywall hinders long-term use
As evidenced with the latest update after the Tyranid Codex release, the long-term usability of this app is questionable. Prior to this update, he app was an excellent tool to look up the basic rules/datasheets of another faction without needing to consult an opponent. As far as I am concerned, I would have paid an extra fee for access to all of these rules, even if codex specific aspects, e.g. new detachments, remained locked to codex purchases.
With the paywall creeping in as each faction’s codex is released, it is evident that the usability of this app is limited. The ability for rules and updates to be instantly accessible as they’re released is one of the biggest benefits to the app, but these benefits are overshadowed by the negatives on the horizon.
Missed Opportunity
The app has been one of the best things to come out of 10th so far, and has been fantastic for speeding up games and easily checking rules.
That codex rules are going back behind an additional paywall, not just the list building for that army, is a real miss I think. Most people are going to unsubscribe as the next few codices release and go to pirated options, and it’s going to be worse for the game as a whole.
Locking codex list building behind codex ownership I could understand, but not being able to see the rules for an army you don’t play without buying the codex is an absolute joke.
