WatchPlayer transfers podcast episodes directly to the Apple Watch. These can be played there without the direct connection with the iPhone. The podcast will be played in the background on the Apple Watch. The workout app or other apps on the watch can be started simultaneously.
On the iPhone, WatchPlayer is a complete podcast manager and player. In a directory you can put the sources of his favorite podcasts and can load individual episodes to the iPhone and if you would like to listen to them right there or directly to the Apple Watch for transfer.
To listen to the podcasts on the Apple Watch, you need Bluetooth headphones. Apple has recently taken the support of the built-in speaker of the Watch from the app developers. It also takes a long time until the episode on the watch was broadcast.
Since watchOS 4 / iOS 11, the WatchApp of audio apps on the clock * is automatically started *. There is no way to stop this. You can only set this behavior globally for all apps in the Watch settings. Therefore you can find on the second side of the WatchApp of WatchPlayer an iPhone Control Screen, via which you can remote control the iPhone's player.
The app does not use tracker or other analytical tools. All rights and obligations are the responsibility of the respective podcast authors.
New in v4.0:
- Expansion of the player on the Apple Watch with features that watchOS 5 offers
- Maintenance of all functionalities also for older Apple Watch
- Transfer from iPhone to Apple Watch is displayed on the iPhone as a percentage
Ratings and Reviews
It’s ok. Not too slow on transferring, had trouble adjusting the volume of the podcast on my watch but not sure if that’s me or the ap.
Developer Response ,
[UPDATE] Hi, Apple does not offer any volume adjustments until now for 3rd Party Apps on Apple Watch. ######## Hi, no. You don't need to review the App before transfer works. :) Perhaps you find time to visit www.watchplayer.de where you find some FAQs and also workarounds. You can't use the Apple Podcast App for transferring Podcast to Apple Watch (and this is a pitty!!!). Hope as we speak you were able to transfer Podcasts to your Apple Watch. I am here to help. Rgds
Transfer podcasts to your Apple Watch, leave phone at home and listen to podcasts
This app is great, it does everything as promised In a super simple way, very easy to use. The application allows you to download/transfer podcasts to your Apple Watch, then you can leave your phone at home go for a jog and listen to the Podcasts.
I was surprised Apple didn’t already have this option available for their watch? I’ve tried a few other podcast apps and none of them seem to let you transfer the podcast from the phone to the watch, so you still need to take the phone with you on the jog, which sort of defies the need for the Apple Watch, “if I have my phone with me anyway why do I need the watch.”
For example this app allows me to go for a jog to the beach , go for a swim not having to leave my iPhone X on the beach and risk it getting stolen.
Transfer from local iTunes library?
Seems capable but why no ability to transfer from either Mac or iPhone local podcasts for podcasts that are not available from iTunes store or direct URL? Seems like the most obvious feature. Prevents me from using it.
Edit: no email contact on your web site. Not using Twitter. I mean accessing your lical iTunes podcast library files, not online links. Some podcasts on your Mac might be from sources not available through URLs. Why not make your local iTunes podcast files/library available?
Developer Response ,
[UPDATE 040218] You can access the iTunes Library from WatchPlayer. All you have to do is to access the feeds view (top right button on main screen) -> select the plus button (again top right button) and enter a search string. The search is made inside the iTunes Library. Select your desired podcast and after selecting it, it will be listed in the stored feeds. After that you can choose episodes from it. Is this what you are looking for? Perhaps we can have a conversation via email, its faster. You will find my contact details here: www.watchplayer.de ###### Hi, should work. If you share a link which "points" to an Audiofile, WatchPlayer can/should import it. Let me know how it works and perhaps give me a example URL from where you want to import Audio from.
