Wondery: Discover Podcasts 12+

I love all the great content and the story telling, only thing that stopped me from giving 5 stars is the mechanics of the app it self. I have an issue were sometime it won’t play the next episode unless I push play, It won’t automatically play the next episode, the app can take a long time to load or freeze some times, currently using a iPhone 12 pro max.

Comparing the basic User functionality of this app to every other streaming app I have, it’s incredibly poor. It’s not the version of the app (latest) and the “help” pages offered no help on how to remove shows from continue listening, or new episodes from your shows sections.

The app is basic and the basic functions I’ve mentioned should be app design 101 (Maintenance functionality is key part of the User lifecycle). Just sayin’- lazy app development.

Wondery content is great, and so much better ad free. No issues there. Crashing occurs pretty frequently, which other reviews have mentioned. The app tho is really limited in functionality for the User. Can’t edit or manage what appears in user selected options such as Continue Listening. So if you listen to a podcast to check it out it you can’t ever remove it. Every new episode of those podcasts appear in your continue listening section, meaning it gets super cluttered and even if you manually “play” every ep, it still comes back when a new ep has been released (there is no option to mark Rod as played so you ace to scroll through the ep, pretty annoying). Listen once listen for life! Similar issues with new eps etc, which periodically (and randomly) fill this up with shows you had once added to your shows and long since removed. Clunky, inconsistent and pretty lazy app development.

Decided to pay for it. Worth it to avoid the ads. After 4 months later I’ve gobbled up 4067 minutes of content. I love it due to:
1) relaxing: The dulcet tones of the speaker makes it easy to mentally disengage and listen in.
2) informative: topics are well researched. It condenses down a few books that I’d otherwise never bother to read.

Addicted to to Business Wars and American innovation. Not so fussed on fictional crime stuff.
