Yuka is a free mobile app that allows you to scan the barcodes of food and personal care products and instantly see their impact on your health. A rating and detailed information help you understand the analysis of each product.

When a product has a negative impact on your health, Yuka also recommends similar but healthier alternative products.

◆ A 100% INDEPENDENT PROJECT ◆

Yuka is a 100% independent project : product reviews and recommendations of healthier alternatives are done in an objective way. No brand or manufacturer can influence them in one way or another. Furthermore, there is no in-app advertising. You can access detailed information on our business model on our website (www.yuka.io/en).

◆ 5 MILLION REFERENCED PRODUCTS ◆

Yuka established a database that contains 3 million food products and 2 million cosmetic products.

Each food product is evaluated according to 3 objective criteria: nutritional quality, presence of additives and organic aspect of the product.

The method to analyse cosmetic products is based on the analysis of all the ingredients of the product. Each ingredient is assigned a risk level according to the latest scientific data.

Yuka - Food and Cosmetic Scanner

When my daughter told me about this wonderful Yuka app, I just had to get it. Yuka is so easy to use while shopping, actually it is easy and fun to use. I have changed products, as some of my products were not so good, ooops!! Not just food also cosmetics. Also my moisturiser, I have change to a better one, which really I do not know which are good ingredients or bad, especially in moisturiser’s - hand wash - biscuits - dried fruit and others.

I wish to thank the co founders, Julie, Francois and Benoit for inventing this life changing app, which they have made in a way that you understand how to use the app straight away. This is a dream come true for people like myself to find better products to buy and to stay healthier.
I am so grateful to them, thank you for all your hard.

Interesting but deceptive

The information you show about products is useful, but boiling all that down to a single ‘health’ score is super deceptive and can be incredibly misleading. People will read into that score to mean what they want and not what it actually is telling them. You should instead encourage people to analyse each category and why it matters and why they may choose to consider or ignore it. Compare almond milk to oat milk for example: oat gets a much higher score so you’d think it’s ‘healthier’ and order your coffee. But it’s almost 5 times as calorie dense as almond which should be one of the major consideration for most. “Healthy” is so incredibly subjective and you take very few steps in this app to clarify what you mean by that. Also some of the issues you seem to have with certain additives have all of two over 10 year old citations. Is that even still relevant? What metric do you use to decide if something is worth mentioning or not?

You’re also using inconsistent measurements between products. I’ve seen kcal, kj, and cals used pretty interchangeably making it really difficult for anyone to accurately compare one product to another. You really should standardise all your metrics.

Lost weight yahoo and great for cosmetics

I enjoy this app alot. Use it nearly every other day. One can see by how low down on the list of ingredients, in australia that is, how much the harmful ingredients is (as advised by the app sources) ie risky ingredients very low on the list has least impact so thats how i can decide if i want to take that risk as i may not be exposed to that ingredient in any other of my products. And since ive used it on grocery items i have lost 1.8kg by changing to similar products but safer for me. I havent done anything else in my life to lose the weight. This app is the only thing ive applied to my choices in products. Go for it. It can only benefit your life. Online products like gemma vendetta work well too. Great app
