This terrific arcade game is anything but Piffle.

Piffle

A cat puzzle ball adventure

View

The maker of Crossy Road brings us Piffle, a game about lobbing kittens around so they smash into things. (It’s not as cruel as it sounds.)

In fact, these adorable little furballs – Piffleballs in the game’s parlance – are pretty happy about being flung into blocks of every shape and texture. Look closely, in fact, and even the blocks themselves sport charming little grins. Everyone’s just having a great time in Piffle.

Hit those red blocks six times and they explode, taking out others in the vicinity.

Pop off your Piffleballs and every block hit is worn down until it disappears. So the trick here is to aim them so that they bounce off the highest number of blocks possible before returning to the bottom of the screen. (For those who know their games, it’s essentially Breakout meets Bubble Witch Saga).

The blocks move down the screen with every shot taken, so aim carefully; let them reach the bottom of the screen and they’ll squish Piffle, the game’s hero. You won’t have much trouble in the early stages, but from around level 17 you have to think a lot more about every shot.

More block types means more to think about. Aim carefully!

It is classic ‘risk versus reward’ stuff – do you take easy shots at lower blocks to stave off defeat, or go for something more ambitious but less certain to get results?

Quickly, there’s even more to consider, as there are power-ups to be collected and different block types to be conquered. Your choice of special booster at the start of each stage becomes important, too.

The heart of Piffle is the strange satisfaction of pinging balls into a space and watching the chaos unfold – it feels like you planned it all out when you didn’t. At all.
